Make a Difference Through Clinical Leadership

The Massachusetts Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (MABVI) is seeking an experienced and compassionate Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) to lead our Adjustment to Vision Loss Counseling Program. This leadership role combines direct clinical work, program oversight, staff supervision, and strategic development to support individuals adjusting to blindness and low vision throughout Massachusetts.

Position Summary

The Director of Adjustment Counseling provides clinical leadership for MABVI's counseling services, ensuring high-quality, accessible, and person-centered care. The Director oversees counseling operations, supervises clinical staff, manages referrals and caseloads, supports program growth, and collaborates with leadership to expand access to services for underserved communities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain a direct counseling caseload within the Adjustment to Vision Loss Counseling Program.

  • Screen participants for counseling services and coordinate referrals to internal counselors or external providers.

  • Manage program waitlists and caseload distribution.

  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate a team of Adjustment Counselors.

  • Support staff pursuing professional licensure and oversee clinical documentation.

  • Develop and implement counseling policies, procedures, and quality assurance measures.

  • Collaborate with leadership to establish and maintain billing procedures.

  • Conduct trainings for staff and community partners regarding counseling services and referral processes.

  • Support outreach initiatives, presentations, educational programs, and community engagement efforts.

  • Assist with grant reporting, fundraising initiatives, and program evaluation.

  • Participate in leadership meetings and organizational planning.

  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA, confidentiality regulations, and clinical best practices.

  • Collaborate across departments to support participant needs and service coordination.

Qualifications

Required:

  • LICSW in Massachusetts or ability to obtain reciprocal Massachusetts licensure.

  • 5+ years of counseling experience.

  • Strong leadership, supervision, and team development experience.

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Preferred:

  • Lived experience with blindness or low vision.

  • Extensive professional experience in the blindness field.

  • Knowledge of Massachusetts social service systems and blindness resources.

This position is fully remote; however, Massachusetts residency is preferred. Occasional in-state travel for meetings, trainings, and organizational events is required.
