Job description

2nd Line Infrastructure Support Engineer

Location: Cape Town (Remote role, but must be based in Cape Town)

Hours: 6 am – 3 pm UK working Hours


About the Opportunity

Our client is seeking an experienced 2nd Line Infrastructure Support Engineer to join

their growing IT team. This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive infrastructure

professional who enjoys troubleshooting, supporting critical systems, and working across a

predominantly Microsoft-based environment.


The successful candidate will provide second-line infrastructure support, assisting with the

maintenance, monitoring, and optimisation of servers, networks, and end-user technologies.

Working closely with senior technical colleagues, you will play a key role in ensuring

Business-critical systems remain secure, reliable, and available.


Key Responsibilities

● Provide Level 2 support for infrastructure-related incidents and service requests.

● Diagnose and resolve issues across Windows Server environments, Active Directory,

Group Policy and Microsoft 365.

● Monitor and maintain core infrastructure services, including backups, patch

management, and endpoint security solutions.

● Investigate networking issues involving DNS, DHCP, and TCP/IP.

● Escalate complex technical issues to senior engineers or third-party vendors when

required.

● Maintain accurate technical documentation, procedures, and knowledge base

articles.

● Support hardware deployments, upgrades, and routine infrastructure maintenance.

● Collaborate with Service Desk and wider IT teams to ensure timely resolution of

tickets and incidents.

● Assist with ongoing infrastructure improvement projects and technology upgrades.



Requirements

Essential Skills & Experience

● Minimum of 3 years of experience within a Level 2 Support, Infrastructure Support, or

similar technical role.

● Strong knowledge of:

○ Windows Server

○ Active Directory

○ Group Policy


○ Microsoft 365

● Good understanding of networking fundamentals, including DNS, DHCP, and

TCP/IP.

● Experience supporting physical and virtual infrastructure environments.

● Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.

● Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

● Full UK Driving Licence.


Desirable Skills & Experience

● Experience with backup technologies such as Veeam.

● Exposure to endpoint security and monitoring platforms.

● Knowledge of VMware and/or Hyper-V virtualisation technologies.

● Experience supporting Cisco Meraki networking solutions.

● Relevant industry certifications, such as:

○ Microsoft Certifications

○ CompTIA A+

○ CompTIA Network+

○ CompTIA Server+
