Overview:
The Corporate Communications team is looking for a Communications Manager, APAC, to localize GitHub news and drive impactful media coverage across the APAC region. You'll work cross-functionally to identify storytelling opportunities that highlight GitHub's products and drive customer adoption — adapting global narratives for regional relevance and building relationships with local media, influencers, and analysts.
Responsibilities:
- Localize GitHub's global narratives for APAC markets, using data, product launches, and more to cultivate compelling stories that generate positive perceptions toward GitHub
- Determine the right format and channel for each story based on target audience(s) across diverse APAC markets
- Create narratives based on messaging frameworks in partnership with broader Corporate Communications team
Communication Strategy & Execution
- Develop and execute overall APAC communications strategy, ensuring clear and consistent messaging across all relevant channels
- Develop content and collateral (including briefing documents, media alerts and pitches, and talking points) for regional communications initiatives and events
- Media train regional spokespeople and staff press briefings
- Support broader issues management and incident response efforts
- Measure impact of communications initiatives and leverage data-driven insights to iterate and improve
- Embed diversity, inclusion, and belonging (DI&B) throughout strategy and execution, proactively seeking a variety of opinions to inform approach
Stakeholder & Vendor Management
- Manage agency relationships, including contract negotiations and procurement, across priority markets
- Build understanding of APAC stakeholder groups, customers, partners, and media, and leverage that understanding in execution
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Product Marketing, Developer Relations, and other teams to support storytelling that drive customer adoption
- Collaborate with Microsoft colleagues and support broader communications strategies around Microsoft’s full suite of developer tools
Qualifications:
- 5+ years experience in public relations, corporate communications, or related field
- OR Bachelor's Degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, or related field AND 3+ years relevant experience
- OR Master's Degree in the above AND 1+ year relevant experience
- OR equivalent experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- 7+ years of experience in PR, corporate communications, or a related field; alternatively, a Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years or a Master’s degree with 3+ years of relevant experience
- Background in the software development or technology industry, with experience in both in-house and agency communications roles
- Proven success securing media coverage across APAC markets such as Japan, Australia, India, and Korea
- Strong understanding of APAC media landscapes, and cultural nuances
- Familiarity with the developer ecosystem, open source, AI, or DevOps, including experience using AI to improve workflow efficiency
