Job description

Summary

Pixion’s globally distributed, fully remote team is searching for an experienced Game Designer. You will play a pivotal role within the close-knit studio, developing the game and its meta competitive systems to launch followed by liveops scaling.

We're proud to be developing Fableborne, a hybrid midcore mobile f2p game that blends base building with ARPG raiding. In this asynchronous competitive game, players engage in snackable, action-packed PvE combat while raiding each other's bases.

In the Game Designer position, you will focus on designing and balancing core progression, economy, engagement, retention and monetisation features. This is a fantastic opportunity to shape the success of Fableborne, leaving a lasting impact in designing a new game players will enjoy for years.

Are you ready to embark on the adventure with us? Apply now and help us create unforgettable competitive gaming experiences!

Culture Alignment

  • We are building something new, facing the unknown. You are motivated by intellectual challenges and not having easy answers at hand.

  • Endless curiosity. You thrive in data and cross-functional discussions to battle test ideas.

  • Be a team player. A team’s idea will always be better than a siloed thought.

  • AI will evolve all our roles. You invest personal time and experiment during work tasks how to transform your role to increased outcomes quality and velocity.

  • Open to blockchain and keen to experiment with new ways of designing games, liveops, competition and building a community with this technology. You will be expected to design game and meta systems that integrate a token economy with the support of the product director.

  • Our studio culture is one of ownership, collaboration, self-organization and proactive problem solver. You want to take responsibility for your wins and grow from your mistakes.

Responsibilities

1. Game Systems:

  • Design in-game systems that shape player progression, grow retention and monetisation, and deliver an overall fun experience to the player.

  • Shape player journeys to optimize long-term retention curve by maturing new players to retained late-game players who are still reaching towards mastery.

  • Utilize Unity to playtest in development features, content and balancing.

  • Participate in the testing of all systems designed by you to ensure they fully deliver the design and experience intentions before cleared for release.

2. Economy Design:

  • Own the design, balance and monitoring of game economy, liveops and monetisation.

  • Balance the game’s economy to provide players with a fair and rewarding experience whilst also delivering high performing free-to-play financial performance.

  • Collaborate with the product team to design and implement cross-platform virtual bundles, pricing strategies, and in-app purchases.

3. Live Operations:

  • We operate Fableborne in a seasonal model as we ship the game towards soft launch readiness. You will own the direction, planning, economy and liveops balancing of the game for each season.

  • Propose new liveops and monetisation features by pitching their ROI so their value can be quantified for roadmap prioritization.

  • Closely collaborate with Product Director and Combat Designer to define the game’s roadmap, and its new content needs to update the meta, satisfy player needs, refresh the game experience and create new monetisation opportunities.

  • Autonomously leverage data to monitor the game’s core KPIs, economy balance, liveops performance and recommend hypotheses to optimize high-impact KPIs.

  • Continuously monitor, with the support of the product and community team, player behavior and feedback patterns to make adjustments and improvements to the game's live content.

Your Experience

  • Previous experience in senior game design roles with a focus on midcore and mobile free-to-play titles. Also apply if you have been working as a mid-level game designer for at least three years.

    • Responsibility experience outweighs official job titles.

  • You understand how second-to-second action and strategy games work, why people play them, what motivates them to spend and why they keep playing for years.

  • You worked on at least one scaled free-to-play mobile game in liveops stage.

  • Experience designing, documenting, and shipping game systems with a focus on progression, economy balancing, monetisation, and liveops goals.

  • Comfortable analyzing data, documenting hypotheses, designing experiments and measuring results to learn autonomously.

  • Enjoy playing mobile games across multiple genres and you believe that learnings can come from any genre including hybrid casual.

  • You are motivated to work on a free-to-play title that contains loot box mechanics.
