Job Role: Estimator/Project Co-Ordinator - Mechanical Plumbing
Compensation range: $2,000 AUD - $2,500 AUD / Monthly
Engagement type: Independent Contractor Agreement
Work Schedule: This role is expected to align with the AU business hours (approx. 9 AM - 5 PM, Monday to Friday) for collaboration, but as a contractor, you’ll have flexibility in how you manage your time.

Who The Client Is: A specialist mechanical services contractor delivers end-to-end pipework and HVAC installation solutions across commercial and industrial construction projects. Their work spans new builds, refurbishments, and complex fit-outs, where they support the delivery of critical building systems including pipework, plant equipment, and mechanical infrastructure.
Role Overview: We are seeking a highly capable Estimator / Project Coordinator with experience in mechanical plumbing and/or HVAC systems. This role combines technical estimating with project coordination, requiring strong attention to detail, commercial awareness, and the ability to manage multiple moving parts across projects.
You will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates, supporting project delivery, and ensuring all documentation, pricing, and coordination activities are executed with precision.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare accurate cost estimates for mechanical plumbing and HVAC projects based on drawings, specifications, and scope of works
- Interpret construction drawings, schematics, and technical documents to develop detailed Bills of Quantities (BOQs)
- Build and maintain detailed cost breakdowns, including labour, materials, subcontractors, and equipment
- Source and evaluate supplier and subcontractor pricing to ensure competitive and accurate estimates
- Support project coordination activities from tender stage through to delivery
- Track project costs and assist in maintaining budgets and margin targets
- Liaise with engineers, project managers, suppliers, and subcontractors to clarify scope and resolve discrepancies
- Assist in procurement and purchasing of materials where required
- Maintain accurate records of estimates, pricing assumptions, and project documentation
- Use Excel and estimating/software tools to manage data, pricing models, and reporting
- Identify risks, gaps, and inconsistencies in project documentation and proactively resolve them
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Experience in mechanical plumbing and/or HVAC estimating OR coordination
- Strong Excel / spreadsheet capability
- Ability to read construction drawings and specifications
- Experience with BOQs and cost build-ups
- Excellent organisational skills
- Mechanical plumbing background
- HVAC plant / pipework knowledge
- Exposure to rigging, steel fabrication, and welding
- Procurement / purchasing experience
- Experience with systems such as AroFlo or similar
- Detail-obsessed with strong focus on accuracy
- Proactive mindset — able to identify gaps without direction
- Strong communication skills, especially in remote environments
- Commercial mindset — understands margins, not just cost
Tools to Use
