About the Role:

This role is responsible for designing, building, and owning core components of the Civo platform. It involves working on complex distributed systems, influencing architectural decisions, and helping shape the direction of new and existing products. The position goes beyond implementation, with a strong focus on scalability, reliability, and long-term system design.

The Senior Platform Engineer will live in Kubernetes, virtualization, and cloud infrastructure, with opportunities to contribute to open-source projects and represent Civo at industry events. ● Develop and optimize distributed systems with a strong focus on reliability, scalability, and performance

● Tuning Kubernetes control plane components, optimizing reconciliation loops, and debugging operator behavior across large-scale clusters

● Collaborate cross-functionally with product, design, and engineering teams to deliver robust solutions

● Mentor and support other engineers through code reviews, pairing, and technical guidance

● Contribute to and influence engineering standards, tooling, and development processes

● Take ownership of critical services, ensuring uptime, observability, and operational excellence

● Stay current with emerging technologies in Go, Kubernetes, and cloud-native ecosystems

Key Results/Objectives:

● Deliver scalable, production-ready features that directly improve platform performance, reliability, and customer experience

● Own and lead the design and delivery of key platform components and services

● Improve system performance and efficiency through optimization and architectural enhancements

● Maintain high system reliability, contributing to uptime, monitoring, and incident response improvements

● Drive engineering excellence through code quality, documentation, and best practices

● Mentor and support engineers to elevate overall team capability and output

● Contribute to roadmap execution, ensuring projects are delivered on time and to a high standard

● Identify and implement improvements that reduce technical debt and increase development velocity

Requirements:

● Significant professional experience developing software in Go (typically 5+ years or equivalent depth)

● A driver, not passenger - someone who can work autonomously and take ownership of their work

● Strong experience designing and building distributed systems at scale

● Deep understanding of concurrency, performance optimization, and system design in Go

● Proven experience with Kubernetes administration and containerized environments

● Experience working with cloud-native architectures and infrastructure

● Strong knowledge of microservices, APIs, and service-oriented design

● Experience operating systems in production, including monitoring, debugging, and incident response
