Founded in 1846 to care for the children of sailors in the Port of New York, Seamen's Society for Children and Families ("Seamen’s Society”) was one of the first organizations in the US to care for abandoned children in family settings, rather than institutions. Today, Seamen's Society is a comprehensive $28 million nonprofit organization that offers foster care and adoption services, mental and behavioral health care services, prevention/family stabilization services, domestic violence intervention services, a health home care management program, education financial support, a childcare center, and a youth tutoring program. The agency's 200+ professionals serve over 1,250 children and over 500 families in New York City. Job Summary:

To work as part of an interdisciplinary team providing direct psychiatric services to children in the Enhanced Family Foster Care department. The Psychiatrist will provide expert care including psychiatric evaluations, mental health developmental assessments, and medication management. This position will also contribute to patient care by ensuring the appropriate prescribing of medications, when applicable, maintaining timely and accurate documentation within the electronic health record, and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams to support treatment planning. Additionally, the role requires ongoing collaboration with A29-I staff, offering crisis intervention services as needed, and providing guidance and support to youth and families.


Duties/Responsibilities:

· Provides psychiatric services to children and adolescents including monthly/quarterly medication management for the appointments which would include submission of prescriptions via electronic prescription portal.

· Responsible for completing psychiatric evaluations, mental health developmental assessments, and other required documentation as per stakeholder requirements

· Thoroughly complete and manage documentation of all clinical contacts kept or not kept.

· Offers guidance/input to the multi-disciplinary team for identified youth who are need of in-depth diagnostic considerations to ensure appropriate level of care.

· Participates in meetings, case conferences as needed and/or required for high-risk cases.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

· Strong treatment and evaluation experience with child and adolescent population

· Strong understanding of DSM-V and ICD 10-codes utilized for diagnostic purposes.

· Strong understanding of the usage and side effects of psychotropic medications on children and adolescents.

· Ability to manage complex or recurring concerns through sound clinical judgement

· Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation

Requirements

 

Qualifications/Requirements:

· Degree and active license in medicine as well as residency completed in child psychiatry

· Must have an active DEA License

· Minimum of 2 years training by the AACAP to obtain credits necessary to practice medicine

· Strong computer proficiency, along with excellent written and verbal communication skills, required.

· Fully remote position with rare on-site presence in Staten Island or Brooklyn to meet client needs as needed

· Must be available during after school hours, Monday - Friday

· Maintains professional competence through participation in continuing education and other appropriate learning experiences.

Salary Description
$150-$175/hr
