ABOUT THE CLIENT:
Our Client is an Australian electrical and communications services company based in Melbourne, Victoria. The company provides electrical solutions across residential, commercial, industrial, civil, and asset maintenance sectors.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Estimator is responsible for accurately assessing project costs, performing detailed take-offs from drawings, producing comprehensive Bills of Quantities (BoQs), and reviewing subcontractor quotes.
The candidate must have strong verbal and written communication skills - effective interaction, resourceful, and able to find solutions independently, anticipating challenges and proactively, addressing them, can be trusted to handle information, maintain confidentiality, and consistently deliver quality work.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepare accurate cost estimates, quotations, and tender submissions for electrical projects ranging from residential works to commercial and shop fit-outs
Review drawings, specifications, scopes, and client requirements to determine labour, material, and subcontractor costs
Manage multiple quotations simultaneously with quick turnaround times
Source and validate pricing through suppliers and pricing platforms including L&H, Middys & AWM and other external supplier systems
Utilise Aroflo to manage estimating workflows, track quotes, monitor project progress, and maintain documentation throughout the project lifecycle
Coordinate with the Director, project teams, suppliers, and admin to clarify project requirements and ensure accurate pricing
Assist in identifying opportunities for cost savings, value engineering, and process improvements
Support the business transition toward increased commercial and fit-out project work
Maintain accurate records of estimates, revisions, supplier pricing, and tender documentation
Ensure all estimates comply with Australian electrical standards, regulations, and company procedures
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
Previous experience as an Electrical Estimator within the Australian electrical industry
Strong understanding of electrical systems, installation methods, project costing, and tendering processes
Proven experience estimating residential, commercial fit-out, and shop fit-out electrical projects valued between $50Kβ$200K
Basic knowledge and practical understanding of data infrastructure and structured cabling systems
Ability to accurately read and interpret electrical drawings, plans, specifications, and scopes of work
Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving abilities with high attention to detail
Excellent time management and organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines simultaneously
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with suppliers, clients, and internal teams
Experience using Aroflo or similar project/job management software
Familiarity with XeroMe and supplier pricing platforms including L&H, Middys & AWM
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
Electrical trade qualification or relevant industry certification preferred
Previous experience within commercial construction, electrical contracting, or maintenance/service environments highly regarded
5+ years of estimating experience
Australian electrical industry experience is essential
