Job description

Our client is seeking a highly motivated and resourceful Mechanical Analysis Engineer. This is a dedicated position focused on analyzing the mechanical performance of various mechanical components and testing equipment under high temperature/pressure environment. Candidates must have extensive experience in structural analysis and finite element analysis (FEA).

The position holder will report to the Structural and Stress Analysis Manager. The Analyst will work as part of a highly functioning team of engineers and scientists focused on developing the design of next generation of advanced nuclear reactors.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform stress analysis for test equipment and components using FEA and hand calculations.
  • Present analysis results to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Interface with the Mechanical testing teams to ensure test requirements are met.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary Engineering and Project Teams on requirements and inputs.
  • Support continuous learning and application of nuclear industry best practices to maintain the highest quality of engineering design and proactively identify process change/enhancement opportunities.
  • Perform peer review to maintain the expected quality standard as per the engineering quality assurance plan.
  • Work as a technical point of contact for various focus tasks.

Key Qualifications:

  • B.S, M.S. or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from accredited university. Aerospace, Nuclear, and Civil Engineering degrees are also considered.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of related experience with a B.S. degree, or 2+ years with an M.S. degree, or 0+ years with Ph.D. degree.
  • Proficient in finite element stress analysis, mechanical analysis methods and commercial mechanical stress analysis and modeling tools with emphasis on ANSYS and SolidWorks.
  • Strong understanding of solid mechanics, and materials failure mechanism.
  • Candidates should have demonstrated experience in structural analysis, buckling analysis, thermal analysis, and seismic analysis.
  • Working experience with equipment design and analysis codes and standards such as AISC, and ASME BPVC and Piping Code.
  • Experienced with conceptual design and sizing equipment and structural components through basic calculation and utilizing Mathcad.
  • Strong communication skills and collaborative teamwork is highly desired.
  • The successful candidate will possess a high degree of trust and integrity, communicate openly and display respect and a desire to foster teamwork.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Highly skilled performing finite element analysis of mechanical components using Ansys and/or ABAQUS.
  • Experienced with implementing and interpretation of AISC code and ASME Boiler Pressure Vessel Code.
  • Working knowledge of computer code development and knowledgeable in programming tools such as Python.
  • Working experience utilizing Mathcad.
  • Previous experience in the nuclear industry.
