Position Summary
Taxwell is looking to hire a Senior Product Designer to join our mission of making it affordable and easy for individuals and businesses to digitally file their taxes. This individual will apply design principles and methodologies to elevate our experience, championing AI-native thinking across the product organization. They will collaborate closely with product management and development teams to build industry-leading experiences that achieve business objectives and elevate customer outcomes. For this role, we expect a level of AI fluency that shows clear evidence that AI is changing the role and improving outcomes.
What You’ll Do
Design Excellence & Craft
- Create user experiences and interfaces for product prototypes in keeping with industry standards and best practices
- Translate user needs and business requirements into compelling experiences across web, mobile, and AI-driven touchpoints
- Create user journeys, user flows, wireframes, and interactive prototypes across multiple devices and interfaces
- Create low- and high-fidelity prototypes to communicate design intent, using AI-assisted tools to rapidly explore and iterate on concepts
AI-Powered Product Design
- Design innovative features that leverage generative AI to transform how users interact with and complete their tax filing experience
- Contribute to defining what AI-native experiences look and feel like at scale across the Taxwell product ecosystem
- Develop reusable AI-informed design patterns and interaction paradigms that can be applied across products and surfaces
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate with product management, engineering, research, and data science to define, iterate, and ship features, ensuring alignment across user needs, business goals, and technical constraints
- Recommend metrics to define, manage, and measure design success and prioritize enhancements
Communication & Storytelling
- Create and present strategies and recommendations to design partners and stakeholders, articulating rationale clearly and confidently
- Use expertise, storytelling, and persuasion to influence the product vision and design
- Measure and explain the value of design to stakeholders using qualitative and quantitative data

- Building: Build systems, not one-off features—pipelines and agent-driven workflows that take in customer feedback, generate specs, prototype solutions, and ship. Design AI-powered experiences that people understand, value, use, and trust. Lead new ways of building product, such as unlocking designers to ship code in production
- Accountability: Establish quality standards for AI-augmented work across your team. Define guardrails for AI-powered experiences that balance innovation with user trust. Own the outcomes not just of your own work, but the quality bar for how AI is used across the designers you influence. You can delegate the work, but never the accountability
Who You Are
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent expertise in User Experience, Interaction Design, Communication Design, Information Architecture, Psychology, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Human Factors, or a related field
- 5+ years of experience or equivalent expertise designing solutions for software, web applications, or mobile native apps
- 3+ years of experience or equivalent expertise using industry-standard design and prototyping tools to create low- and high-fidelity designs, such as Figma
- Deep proficiency with AI-powered design tools and workflows, with a track record of integrating AI capabilities into the design process and championing adoption across your team
- Experience designing AI-powered features or products—such as conversational interfaces, intelligent recommendations, predictive workflows, or agentic experiences—with proven ability to ship to production with real outcomes
- Demonstrated experience influencing, negotiating with, and gaining buy-in from stakeholders, including leadership
- Demonstrated experience applying the design decision-making process and incorporating data and key findings into designs
- Demonstrated experience supporting the iterative design process end-to-end, including wireframing, prototyping, user testing, and high-fidelity visuals
- Foundational understanding of common design heuristics and principles
- Ability to accept feedback gracefully while also knowing when to push back respectfully
- Takes ownership of own work and AI-assisted outputs alike—being accountable to deadlines and to the quality of everything that ships, regardless of how it was produced
- Delivers impactful presentations and uses storytelling to influence and persuade others
- Can show examples of redesigning how design work gets done: abandoning the previous status quo and reinventing the process with AI at the core
- Resume must include a link to your design portfolio
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree or equivalent experience in User Experience, Interaction Design, Communication Design, Information Architecture, Psychology, HCI, Human Factors, or a related field
- Experience shipping end-to-end AI workflows—not just conversational interfaces—to production with measurable outcomes
- Proficiency with vibe coding and AI-assisted prototyping—using generative AI to rapidly bring design ideas to life in code
- Experience evaluating and adopting emerging AI technologies to improve team productivity and design quality
- Understanding of responsible AI principles including bias awareness, transparency, and user trust
- Experience unlocking designers to ship code in production, with a clear understanding of the tradeoffs involved
- A strong AI fluency trajectory—a clear story of how your AI practice has evolved, what you’ve tried and abandoned, and where you’re headed
