Job description

Commercial Underwriter

Role Overview

At Insure Connect Services (ICS), we partner with international brokers and insurance firms to place skilled South African professionals into remote, high-impact roles.

As demand for commercial underwriting talent continues to grow, we are actively building a pre-qualified talent pipeline to support our clients across the UK and Australian markets.

This is not a single vacancy, but an opportunity to join a professional network of like-minded individuals, with typical placement turnaround times of 4–8 weeks, depending on client demand.

As a Commercial Underwriter within our pipeline, you will support international brokers across new business, renewals, and portfolio management - contributing to both client retention and business growth, while maintaining high underwriting and service standards.

Key Responsibilities

Commercial & Portfolio Support

  • Assist with new business, renewals, endorsements, and mid-term adjustments
  • Support retention strategies and contribute to reducing policy cancellations
  • Analyse client portfolios and assess risk to ensure appropriate cover and pricing

Client & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Maintain clear, professional communication with clients, brokers, insurers, and internal teams
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships to support long-term portfolio growth

Underwriting & Compliance

  • Request and assess quotations, present options, and implement premium adjustments
  • Ensure all underwriting activity aligns with quality standards and regulatory requirements

Administration & Financial Processes

  • Maintain accurate electronic records for audit and compliance purposes
  • Assist with invoicing, refunds, and general policy administration
  • Ensure all documentation is complete, accurate, and up to date

Minimum Requirements

  • Qualification: Matric (essential); FAIS compliance required. A relevant Degree or Diploma is advantageous
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years’ experience in Short-Term Insurance, specifically Commercial Underwriting
  • Client Exposure: Proven experience engaging directly with clients in a professional capacity
  • Communication: Strong English proficiency, professional presentation, and confident verbal communication
  • Availability: Willingness to work international hours (UK/Australian time zones)
  • Technical Setup: Dedicated home office with reliable fibre internet (minimum 50/50 Mbps; 100/100 Mbps preferred)
  • Location: Must be a South African citizen currently residing in South Africa

Application Process & Additional Information

  • This is a pipeline role, meaning you will be considered for both current and future opportunities
  • The application process includes a comprehensive application form and short video introduction
  • Candidates who successfully complete the process will remain active in our professional network and may be presented to brokers as suitable opportunities arise

Why Join ICS?

  • Access to international career opportunities in the UK and Australian insurance markets
  • A structured, transparent, and digitally enabled recruitment process
  • The opportunity to be part of a growing network of insurance professionals
  • Exposure to modern underwriting environments and global best practices
