MOVEMENT FOR BLACK LIVES (M4BL)
PEOPLE AND OPERATIONS LEAD
Schedule: Full Time (1.0 FTE). M4BL practices a five-day work week, with hours of operations between 10:00am-6:00pm ET.
Location: Remote. This role includes travel during approximately 10% or 5 weeks per year for internal staff gatherings, convenings with M4BL’s ecosystem organizations, and external conferences.
Reports to: Managing Director
Salary: $88,000-$ 103,000 annually, with full health benefits for employee and dependents, employer-funded retirement plan, remote work stipend, and generous front loaded time off and sick days

MOVEMENT FOR BLACK LIVES
The Movement for Black Lives is an ecosystem of organizations and individuals creating a shared vision and strategy to win rights, control and resources for Black people. Building on the legacy and strategies of past movements, the Movement for Black Lives has created a broad political home for Black organizers, activists, and their organizations. Our ecosystem is held together by politics of abolition, anti-capitalism and radical Black Queer Feminisms, and a value system that fights for the most marginalized amongst us.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Operations and People Lead provides critical support for M4BL’s operations team. Working alongside the Managing Director, the Operations and People Lead will support the Movement for Black Lives’ work by ensuring that all M4BL administrative and people files and data are secure and appropriately accessible, serve as the point person for staff engagement and support, and support systems compliance and policy formulation. The Operations and People Lead reports to the Managing Director and directly supports the overall operational and administrative rhythm of business for M4BL.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Administrative Support
- Provide administrative support to the People Operations Team, including scheduling meetings, interviews, and other People Operations events, and maintaining team meeting agendas
- Ensure timely resolution to queries and smooth and timely communication with employees
- Develop and manage People Operations working documents and forms
- Provide support in managing People Operations team projects and update the progress in Asana and other project management tools
- Maintain and update the HRIS, employee documentation, and record-keeping
- Participate and assist in People Operations projects
- Work with M4BL's joint employer and business process outsourcing vendor
- Liaise between M4BL and joint employer on necessary human resources functions
Staff Engagement & Support
- Serve as employee primary point of contact for various queries on time off, policies and procedures, employee handbook
- Maintain the department and organization’s calendar including events, holidays, and payroll dates
- Lead the creation, timelining, and execution of employee engagement plans, such as organization-wide surveys, 1:1 check-ins, etc.
- Lead, coordinate, and schedule staff-wide trainings
- Lead in the planning, implementation, and tracking of the performance management process and support in the execution of the process
- Champion and drive employee sustainability and appreciation programs/initiatives, including celebrations, employee support for life events, and employee wellbeing initiatives
Recruitment and Onboarding/Offboarding
- Manage employee onboarding and offboarding, including:
- Coordinating onboarding orientations for new hires with M4BL’s Finance, Security, and IT teams,
- Leading on digital tools access for new employees
- Completing 90-day check-ins with new hires
- Ensuring that 90-day evaluations with supervisors and new hires are taking place
- Scheduling and completing exit interviews with exiting employees
- Support recruitment efforts by posting job openings on various job boards, communicating with job applicants as needed, coordinating interviews, and supporting teams in the interview process
Policy Formulation & Compliance
- Assist the Senior Director of Finance and Operations and the Managing Director in policy formulation
- Support the maintenance of employee handbook, people operations policies, and procedures and ensure compliance with local, state and federal laws
- Support the organization’s benefits offering and open enrollment process
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in human resources.
- Additional experience in accounting, finance, and/or business operations, preferably at a values-based organization, and coalition formation is preferred.
- Intermediate to expert familiarity with project management software, platforms and tools such as Formstack, Asana, virtual meeting platforms, Canva (or equivalent graphic making software and application), Every Action (or equivalent CRM)
- Proficiency in MS Office and Google Suite
- Skilled at time management and project coordination using digital tools
- Consistent attention to details and accuracy
- Ability to work on a virtual team, in particular, and juggle multiple projects at once while proactively communicating within a virtual environment

LOCATION
Anywhere within the United States. Must be comfortable and able to work remotely and have access to reliable internet connection. This role includes travel during approximately ten weeks per year for internal staff gatherings, convenings with M4BL’s ecosystem organizations, and external conferences. May also require travel and work on occasional weekends and evenings as determined.
