MOVEMENT FOR BLACK LIVES (M4BL) 


DIGITAL STRATEGIST LEAD


Schedule: Full Time (1.0 FTE). M4BL practices a five-day work week, with hours of operations between 10:00am-6:00pm ET.


Location: Remote. This role includes travel during approximately 25% or 15 weeks per year for internal staff gatherings, convenings with M4BL’s ecosystem organizations, and external conferences.


Reports to: Communications Digital Manager


Salary: $88,000-$ 103,000 annually, with full health benefits for employee and dependents, employer-funded retirement plan, remote work stipend, and generous front loaded time off and sick days

M4BL COMMUNICATIONS DEPARTMENT 


M4BL’s communications department builds narrative power for the ideas, policies, and practices outlined in our Vision for Black Lives Policy Platform, a comprehensive framework for a society that values Black lives, repairs past harms, and invests in Black communities. We center the experiences of the people closest to oppression and work towards models where those most impacted are a part of leading, identifying solutions, setting priorities, creating policy agendas, and shifting narratives. 


POSITION SUMMARY

The Digital Strategist (DS) is the talent behind M4BL’s integrated digital narrative power plan assessing, analyzing, and co-coordinating narrative strategies across digital platforms. The DS is responsible for coordinating and maintaining a high level of continuity across M4BL digital platforms, including the CRM, social media, email, and SMS, and possibly coordinating with the web team. In addition, the DS provides analysis to the comms team on where we can make intersectional, new, or novel interventions and is specifically responsible for our email program; how can we assess its efficacy, strengthen our reach, segment our lists, and engage our supporters more.

  • Strategize and execute high-impact, creative digital tactics that build narrative power, meet goals to reach Black audiences, and create visibility for all M4BL issues
  • Conduct cross-table and department meetings (e.g., Policy) and coordinate and strategize with teams about narrative power opportunities 
  • Lead strategy development for email program
  • Lead digital event coordination from the digital team’s side in coordination with other teams and departments.
  • Provide capacity-building support to members by providing regular email trainings for the ecosystem
  • Share in facilitation and note-taking for the weekly digital team meeting
  • Build relationships and strengthen partnerships with member organizations, partners, and community members to support priorities. (This can look like maintaining and growing our working relationships with the labor movement)
  • Support in the development and management of vendor relationships
  • Lead on social media program, utilizing social management platform and calendar to ensure content is posted in a timely manner
  • Manage the digital content calendar
  • Supports the development and strengthening of the voice and tone of M4BL’s online persona
  • Contribute and support as a reviewer for outgoing digital content


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3-5 years of experience in digital strategy, preferably at a values-based organization, and coalition formation
  • Expert knowledge of all major social media platforms and SMS, including publishing and analytics software (e.g., Sprout Social, HootSuite, Bit.ly)
  • Intermediate familiarity with project management software, platforms and tools such as Formstack, Asana, virtual meeting platforms, Canva (or equivalent graphic making software and application), Every Action (or equivalent CRM)
  • Proficiency in MS Office and Google Suite
  • Experience in membership organizing, network or ecosystem development, and 
  • Proficiency in project planning and project management 
  • Proficiency in operations and logistic planning

LOCATION

Anywhere within the United States. Must be comfortable and able to work remotely and have access to reliable internet connection. This role includes travel during approximately ten weeks per year for internal staff gatherings, convenings with M4BL’s ecosystem organizations, and external conferences. May also require travel and work on occasional weekends and evenings as determined.
