What We Can Achieve Together:

The Deputy Director, Web Strategy & Operations  leads TNC’s enterprise web strategy to unify and evolve global flagship web experiences—including nature.org and Conservation Gateway—into a performance-driven, audience-centered, and influence and revenue-enabling ecosystem aligned with TNC’s web vision and strategy. This role is accountable for the performance, strategic direction, and operations of TNC’s flagship web properties and co-leads enterprise digital transformation through governance, risk reduction, cross-channel integration, and data-driven optimization.

The Deputy Director, Web Strategy & Operations leads the strategic evolution of nature.org, Conservation Gateway, and related flagship experiences toward a unified, audience‑centered, and performance‑driven ecosystem that advances TNC’s 2030 goals. 

The Deputy Director partners closely with Marketing Technology to ensure that web strategy dovetails with platform strategy, including alignment on technical roadmap, component capabilities, integrations, and platform innovation. This position manages the Web Production and SEO teams to deliver high‑quality global operations, a scalable production model across time zones and languages, and enterprise‑level governance standards across TNC’s digital ecosystem.  

Responsibilities & Scope

  • Lead enterprise web strategy, including multiyear roadmaps, platform alignment, campaign planning, and phased delivery in support of organizational priorities. 

  • Partner closely with Marketing Technology to align web strategy, AEM platform planning, integrations, and technical innovation. 

  • Drive enterprise web consolidation, migration, and governance to mitigate reputational, legal, privacy, and operational risk. 

  • Establish and enforce global governance standards across content hygiene, accessibility, QA, publishing workflows, author enablement, and risk mitigation. 

  • Leverage analytics, KPI frameworks, dashboards, and executive reporting to inform prioritization, optimization, and performance outcomes. 

  • Oversee site performance, SEO/GEO, experimentation, and A/B testing to improve engagement, conversion, and campaign effectiveness. 

  • Partner with key stakeholder groups to optimize target audience user journeys toward critical organizational goals and outcomes. 

  • Co‑develop a multichannel journey framework with digital channel leads to ensure cohesive experiences across web, email, search, paid media, social, and campaigns. 

  • Co‑lead the evaluation and integration of AI‑powered capabilities (e.g., personalization, search, translation, automation) in alignment with governance standards. 

  • Direct global web operations and oversight for enterprise web properties, supporting 230+ authors across regions and languages, including training, community of practice, and scalable production models.

  • Manage web production and SEO/GEO teams; provide matrixed leadership for complex, cross‑functional, multiyear initiatives. 

  • Oversee vendor relationships, budgets, resource planning, and inbound request prioritization to ensure strategic alignment and operational excellence. 

  • Serve as enterprise web subject matter expert for enterprise web properties, advising on strategy, innovation, trends, and risk mitigation.

  • Travel up to 20%; occasional work outside standard business hours as required. 

  • Supervise one or more administrative or professional staff. 

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field and a minimum of 9 years related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 

  • Experience managing staff and teams. 

  • Experience developing marketing plans and measuring results.

  • Experience cultivating and managing client relationships. 

  • Experience leading complex project and program/account management including financial responsibilities, and measuring results of strategic plans and programs.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in global NGO or multinational organizational contexts with multilingual content and regionalized operations. 

  • Demonstrated leadership in enterprise web strategy or large‑scale web operations for global organizations. 

  • Proven success driving performance improvements using testing, analytics, and experimentation. 

  • Hands‑on experience with Adobe Experience Manager (AEM), governance standards, component‑based systems, and enterprise web operations. 

  • Experience partnering with technical teams (MarTech, IT) to shape platform‑aligned web capabilities. 

  • Experience leading cross‑functional, matrixed programs or multiyear digital transformation initiatives. Experience cultivating relationships in a remote environment.

  • Proven leadership of large‑scale site consolidation, migration, or digital transformation programs.

  • Experience building and maintaining a strong team culture with a positive, productive, and inclusive work environment where employees feel valued and happy in their careers. 

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate ideas and balance the needs of stakeholders. Experience communicating complex, technical ideas and projects to non-technical audiences. 

  • Sound judgment and situational awareness, with the ability to anticipate risks and opportunities based on industry trends, current events, and organizational context—and proactively propose solutions.

  • Expert knowledge of current and evolving trends in the digital space. 

  • Multilingual skills appreciated. 

Salary Information:

The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $$99,705-$149,600. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate’s actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
