Roles & Responsibilities

Requirements:

  • Volunteer Intake: conduct and transcribe 18-20 thirty-minute phone interviews per week, assess applicants for motivation and program fit, review references, and make eligibility recommendations; navigate difficult conversations.
  • Database Management: manage confidential volunteer data using Salesforce and Outlook, ensuring accuracy and data privacy.
  • Customer Service and Pipeline Management: guide applicants through the intake journey, provide regional/logistical guidance, and maintain an efficient communications cadence to advance next steps.
  • Operational Support and Compliance: assist with call campaigns (scheduling background checks, rescheduling interviews, completing mentor applications), participate in team calls/projects, follow risk management and youth development standards, and perform ad hoc admin tasks.

Job description

iMentor is seeking 1 customer service and detail-oriented Volunteer Screening Coordinator (VSC) to join the National Screening Team. Their mission: iMentor Screening supports building high impact relationships that drive student success by leveraging data and program knowledge. We evaluate prospective mentors through safety, collaboration, consistency and mission alignment while maintaining for organizational compliance. 

 

Every year, iMentor recruits around 2,000 adults to serve as mentors to high school students in our program. VSCs play a pivotal role in preparing these mentors to support mentees, guiding applicants through a screening process that assesses their suitability for the program. Through thoughtful interviews and application reviews, VSCs will oversee iMentor’s screening pipeline from start to finish and will set the stage for a volunteer experience that is welcoming, energizing and impactful.  

 

VSCs will connect with prospective mentors from NYC, Chicago and Baltimore.

This position is being offered on a full-time (40-hour/week) remote and seasonal basis. Additionally, iMentor provides excellent and full benefits for this seasonal role. Roles are contracted through December 18, 2026. There is 1 opening for this role.     • Tuesday through Saturday with 9-6 EST , 10-7 EST or 11-8 EST shifts

 

Note: The VSC’s 5-day full-time schedule will be discussed with the hiring manager. This schedule will be fixed and set before hire.


Volunteer Relations
  • Volunteer Intake: Conduct and transcribe 18-20, 30-minute phone interviews per week, equitably assessing applicants for motivation and program fit, reviewing references and making recommendations regarding volunteer eligibility.  Navigate sometimes difficult conversations.
  • Database Management: familiarity and comfort as system administrator; will utilize Salesforce and Outlook to manage and track confidential volunteer data, doing so quickly and carefully.
  • Customer Service: Serve as a personal guide for the applicant, navigate regional and logistical nuances about the program and provide excellent customer service throughout the intake journey.
  • Call Campaign Support: Assist in calls from call campaigns created and facilitated by Screening/Program Operations such as: Scheduling their background check appointment, rescheduling their interview, completing their mentor application, etc..

  • Administrative Tasks
  • Pipeline Management: Manage an efficient communications cadence with applicants, guide volunteers towards completing next steps.
  • Ongoing Communications: Proactively voice updates, needs and concerns to the manager to achieve tasks and work through challenges. 
  • Team Collaboration: Participate in team calls and team projects, providing insight about processes and applicant eligibility as needed.
  • Legal / Compliance: Follow all risk management and youth development standards set by the National Screening Team and iMentor.  Follow all Screening compliance procedures and internal iMentor communication norms. 
  • Ad Hoc Admin Support: Screeners may support fellow screeners and managers through tasks such as reading references, reference phone calls, interview coverage or data entry.

  • Qualifications
  • Minimum two to three years of professional career experience working in nonprofits, customer service, communications, social sciences, HR and/or college admissions. 
  • Self-directed and able to work independently and in remote work settings.  Highly organized with excellent time management skills that suit a fast-paced work environment. 
  • Experience in Salesforce or similar CRM, with ability to learn systems quickly.
  • Transcribing is a key function of this role, minimum of 40 – 60 WPM.
  • Strong interpersonal written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate with empathy, across difference and with diplomacy.   
  • Collaborative, resourceful, strategic, proactive and open to feedback.  
  • Interest in social impact spaces, youth development and educational opportunities.

  • Compensation & Benefits
  • Salary is $52,000 per annum rate prorated for a seasonal position.
  • Fully remote working arrangement (must have home internet).
  • Up to 100% employer funded comprehensive medical and dental coverage.
