Description

About the Role

HealthCentral is hiring a Content Strategy Lead to run our Content Experience team — the editorial group responsible for the ideas, formats, and materials that define our brand across every surface our audiences touch.

This is a senior leadership role for an editor-operator who has done it before: scaled a multi-platform content organization, raised the bar on quality and accuracy, and built deep, productive partnerships with commercial teams. You will own the content vision and roadmap for both our consumer and HCP audiences, lead a team of editors, and work shoulder-to-shoulder with our sales, account management, and product leaders to translate editorial strength into durable revenue.

What You'll Do:

Set the content vision and strategy

  • Define a content strategy that drives value for the company, deepens engagement, and differentiates HealthCentral for both consumer and HCP readers.
  • Translate the strategy into a quarterly editorial roadmap with clear priorities and measurable goals.
  • Work with marketing team on optimizing content for eNL strategy.

Lead and develop the Content Experience team

  • Manage a team of editors spanning consumer and HCP coverage, including direct reports at the VP, senior editor, and editorial director levels.
  • Set clear performance expectations, run rigorous hiring, and build career paths that retain top editorial talent.
  • Coach editors on story selection, narrative craft, and audience fit; raise the floor and the ceiling on the work the team ships.
  • Maintain a healthy, inclusive editorial culture where high standards and efficiency coexist.

Partner with commercial teams to maximize content value

  • Serve as the senior editorial partner to the advertising sales organization — shaping sponsorable franchises, tentpoles, and content packages that sales can confidently bring to market.
  • Co-architect the offering of our branded content studio with the studio lead: pitch concepts, editorial guardrails, talent and format playbooks, and a quality bar that protects the brand.
  • Sit in on key client and agency conversations; translate editorial capability into commercial language.

Run editorial operations at scale

  • Own the content calendar, production cadence, and capacity model across the team; make trade-offs visible and decisive.
  • Implement a new content development process that prioritizes efficient content creation and maximizes internal resource utilization.
  • Work with product, design, marketing to ensure great content actually reaches and serves the right readers.
  • Define and monitor the KPIs that matter — audience growth, engagement quality, repeat visitation, and revenue contribution — and use them to direct investment.
Requirements
  • 12+ years of editorial and content leadership experience, with a substantial portion at health, science, medical, or wellness media outlets, or at health-focused content arms of larger publishers, brands, or platforms.
  • Proven people leadership. You have managed editors and editorial managers through hiring, performance management, restructures, and growth.
  • Track record of building successful content franchises that grew an audience, won loyalty, and delivered against business goals.
  • Real commercial fluency. You’ve worked closely with ad sales, branded content, sponsorship, or partnership teams, and you can speak credibly with sellers, marketers, and clients.
  • Dual-audience instincts. You understand the very different needs, vocabulary, and trust requirements of consumer/patient readers versus clinicians and healthcare professionals — and have produced high-quality work for both.
  • Editorial judgment under pressure. You can make fast, defensible calls on sensitive medical topics, evolving science, and stories with reputational stakes.
  • Operating range. Comfortable zooming from a three-year content strategy down to a copyedit or a tough conversation with a senior editor — and back up again — in the same day.
  • Data fluency. You use audience, SEO, and revenue data to make decisions, not just to justify them after the fact.
  • Strong communicator who can represent the editorial organization to executives, the board, advertisers, and external partners with clarity and credibility.

Nice to Have

  • Experience working with regulated content (FDA, FTC, HIPAA-adjacent considerations) or with pharma and medical device advertisers.
  • Prior leadership of a branded content studio or sponsored content program at a publisher or agency.
  • Experience launching new content surfaces — newsletters, video, audio, events, or AI-assisted formats.

Why This Role

Health is one of the few categories where editorial quality is genuinely a matter of public good — and where audiences will reward you for getting it right. You will inherit an experienced team, a respected brand, and an unusually direct line between great content and meaningful business outcomes. If you want to build a content organization that both clinicians and patients trust, and to do it alongside commercial partners who understand why that trust is the asset, this is the job.
