Role: Senior Python Insurance Pricing & Hyperexponential (hx) Specialist

Location- REMOTE

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Python Rating Engineer with strong insurance domain expertise and hands-on Python development skills. The role focuses on designing, developing, and maintaining rating and pricing solutions for insurance products. Experience with HX-based rating systems (e.g., Duck Creek HX or similar) is highly desirable. Exposure to predictive modeling and advanced analytics in insurance pricing will be an added advantage.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain insurance rating and pricing logic using Python
  • Implement and enhance rating algorithms, including factor tables, discounts, surcharges, and validation rules
  • Translate actuarial specifications, underwriting guidelines, and business requirements into scalable technical rating solutions
  • Configure or work with HX-based rating/product models (preferred)
  • Develop and integrate rating services with policy administration and downstream systems using RESTful APIs
  • Perform unit testing, validation, and regression testing of rating calculations and pricing outputs
  • Support rate changes, product launches, and regulatory updates
  • Analyze rating outputs to support optimization and model refinement
  • Collaborate closely with Actuarial, Product, Underwriting, QA, and DevOps teams
  • Provide production support for rating and pricing-related issues


Requirements

Mandatory Skills & Qualifications

Technical Skills (Must-Have)

  • Strong hands-on experience in Python development (OOP, data structures, performance optimization)
  • Experience building or supporting insurance rating engines
  • Strong knowledge of SQL and relational databases
  • Experience working with RESTful APIs and service-based architectures

Insurance Domain (Must-Have)

  • Strong understanding of insurance rating concepts, including:
    • Base rates, modifiers, tiering
    • Discounts and surcharges
    • Risk factors, territories, classes, limits, deductibles
  • Experience working with insurance products (preferably P&C insurance) with a focus on rating/pricing

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Experience with HX-based systems (Duck Creek HX or similar)
  • Exposure to Duck Creek Rating / Policy administration systems
  • Experience in predictive modeling for insurance pricing or risk assessment
  • Familiarity with statistical or machine learning techniques used in underwriting or rating
  • Understanding of actuarial pricing models
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS / Azure / GCP)
  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
