Job description

Who we are - Our Mission

terralayr addresses the massive deficit in global energy storage.
The over-indexing of electricity generation from renewable energy sources leads to large volatility on the energy grid. The main problem is that wind and solar farms are fluctuating and, by definition, unsteady—there is no sun at night, and it is not always windy. This increases the need for flexibility in the form of battery storage systems to balance the grid in times when supply and demand do not match.
By buying and developing grid-scale storage assets and virtually aggregating them across a layer, we are creating the world's first energy cloud. Imagine AWS for energy. Through the flexibility we secure, we can market flexibility-as-a-service and hedging products/power insurance to utilities, SMEs, and industrial players and create virtual storage capacity for PV and wind farms.

What we are hiring for - Your Role

As our Grid Strategy & Access Lead, you are the central owner of terralayr’s grid access strategy and the key technical counterparty to DSOs/TSOs. Your mission is to improve conversion, speed, and quality of grid outcomes across the project lifecycle - from identifying promising “white spots” to securing and optimizing connection capacity. By combining strong technical / electrical engineering expertise with proactive stakeholder management, you will help terralayr place BESS assets where they are both technically feasible and commercially most attractive.

What you will work on - Your Responsibilities

  • DSO / TSO Counterparty Ownership: Act as terralayr’s main technical counterpart to DSOs/TSOs and lead ongoing discussions around connection feasibility, constraints, FCA topics, timelines, and practical solutions.
  • Grid Strategy & Project Prioritization: Identify and prioritize the most attractive connection opportunities across DSOs/TSOs and support strategic project / DSO selection based on technical bottlenecks, conversion likelihood, and commercial attractiveness.
  • Grid Expertise & Technical Insight: Serve as terralayr’s internal grid expert by assessing grid capacity, connection constraints, technical bottlenecks, and likely DSO/TSO behavior. Provide actionable grid insight to support project selection, FCA assessment, negotiations, prioritization, and broader strategic / regulatory decisions.
  • Grid Access Conversion: Support the conversion of grid opportunities into secured capacity through structured follow-ups, technical challenge, and fact-based negotiations.
  • Regulatory & Lobbying Support: Support terralayr’s regulatory assessments and external positioning by bringing a strong technical view on grid bottlenecks, DSO/TSO processes, and potential improvement levers.
  • Commercial Translation: Translate technical grid constraints into project, timeline, and revenue implications, enabling better development and investment decisions.
  • Cross-functional Ownership: Work closely with Development, Finance, Delivery, Commercial, and leadership to ensure grid strategy directly improves pipeline quality, conversion, and execution.

What we are looking for - Your Qualifications

  • Experience: 5-10 years of relevant experience within a utility, TSO/DSO, grid consultancy, or leading renewable energy developer. Strong experience in grid connection, grid constraints, and power systems, ideally with relevance for BESS / flexibility projects.
  • Education / Technical Profile: Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or similar. Strong technical / electrical engineering depth is essential.
  • Tooling & Analysis: Grid modelling / simulation capabilities are welcome, but not a must. More important is strong practical understanding of grid access, connection processes, and technical bottlenecks.
  • Execution & Influence: You are not just a technical analyst - you can use technical insight to influence outcomes, challenge assumptions, and move projects forward.
  • Communication: Able to speak both the technical language of DSOs/TSOs and the commercial / strategic language of project developers, leadership, and investors. Professional fluency in German is essential.

Why you should be excited about this opportunity

  • Our purpose: Join us in building up an asset fleet that has the potential to make a positive impact on society and our planet by addressing the massive deficit in global energy storage.
  • Focus on innovation: Building our asset fleet following our technology agnostic approach means you will have the opportunity to work with the highest industry standard equipment.
  • Impact: Your contribution will not only have a positive impact on society; by joining our small and nimble team, your work will make a difference from day one.
  • Personal development: You will benefit from a learning & development budget of 1,000 EUR per calendar year that you can use for your individual professional development.
