Lead the Work. Diagnose the Problem. Own the Outcome.

This is a hands-on field role for technicians who already know their way around engines and want to operate at a higher level.

At Level 3, you’re not just turning wrenches. You’re diagnosing failures, leading jobs, mentoring others, and understanding why systems fail, not just how to fix them.

If you’ve worked on diesel engines, marine systems, or heavy industrial equipment and you’re ready to step into more ownership in the field, this is where that happens.

About the Role

The Service Engineer, Engines (Level 3) performs advanced maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) work on diesel engines, auxiliary systems, and related equipment across field and workshop environments.

This role focuses on diagnostics, root cause analysis, and leading field execution, including complex overhauls, system troubleshooting, and on-site machining. You’ll work independently, lead teams when needed, and interact directly with customers and internal stakeholders to deliver high-quality service outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

 • Perform advanced troubleshooting using engine performance data and system diagnostics
• Conduct root cause analysis to identify failure points and prevent repeat issues
• Execute complex engine overhauls, including major component replacement (e.g., crankshafts)
• Read and interpret mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics
• Perform engine timing, turbo work, governor adjustments, and performance testing
• Use precision measurement tools (micrometers, calipers, gauges) to verify tolerances
• Lead field teams and coordinate execution of large-scale service jobs
• Mentor junior technicians and support skill development across the team
• Perform advanced on-site machining and use specialized tooling as required
• Create detailed service reports, parts lists, and job documentation
• Communicate with sales, project managers, and technical teams to support customer needs
• Support job planning, timelines, cost control, and execution strategy
• Identify opportunities for additional work through customer interaction (upsell/cross-sell)

Required Qualifications

 • 5+ years of experience working on diesel engines, marine systems, or industrial equipment
• Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting capability across mechanical and auxiliary systems
• Ability to perform root cause analysis and interpret system performance data
• Advanced ability to read technical drawings and schematics (mechanical, electrical, hydraulic)
• Experience leading field work or supervising small to mid-size teams
• Proficiency using precision measurement tools and understanding tolerances
• Ability to travel extensively (80%+) and work in field environments
• Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a company vehicle
• Ability to obtain and maintain required certifications (TWIC, passport, offshore training)

Desired Skills

 • Experience with large-bore diesel engines or marine propulsion systems
• Background in power generation or industrial service environments
• Experience with vibration analysis, FLIR, or advanced diagnostic tools
• Familiarity with government or defense-related service work
• Ability to lead larger teams (5–10+ technicians)
• Experience with customer-facing service roles
