The Opportunity

We’re looking for an experienced tax lawyer to join our successful Corporate practice in Manchester. In this role, you will play a key role in advising a diverse portfolio of small and medium sized business clients across a broad range of tax matters. You will work closely with our Corporate, Employment, and Commercial Leasing teams to deliver integrated, strategic tax advice on transactions for our clients.

This position suits a versatile lawyer looking to both refine and expand their knowledge base and skillset in a fast-paced, friendly and collaborative environment.

We'd love for the successful candidate to be based in our Manchester office, but we're happy to consider remote work options, including from London, for the right person.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advising on corporate tax matters, including initial business structuring, M&A transactions, restructurings, joint ventures, EIS/SEIS, EMI option schemes, and investment structures.
  • Advising on trust structures and preparing documentation.
  • Providing expert guidance on IR35 and employment tax issues, including off-payroll working rules, contractor assessments, and workforce structuring.
  • Advising on Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT) matters relating to corporate and leasing transactions.
  • Advising on international expansion (including transfer pricing and permanent establishment considerations).
  • Advising on VAT liability and compliance.
  • Managing HMRC objections and appeals.
  • Managing client relationships and contributing to business development initiatives.
  • Supporting and mentoring junior team members.
  • Contributing to business development through webinars and content.

Our Ideal Candidate

  • Qualified solicitor (England & Wales) with 5+ years PQE in corporate tax with proven transactional experience. Additional experience in general corporate work and/or assisting SMEs will be highly desirable.
  • Demonstrable expertise in IR35 / employment tax.
  • Experience in SDLT (particularly leasing).
  • Excellent technical ability, commercial awareness, and communication skills.
  • Confident working with clients autonomously while contributing positively to team culture.
