Summary: The Intern, Software Engineering will support the design, configuration, and delivery of business applications using the Appian low-code automation platform. Working as part of a small, cross functional Agile team, the intern will help execute the project backlog by building application components, supporting testing, and learning how to deliver software rapidly using modern low-code practices. 

This role is ideal for candidates who enjoy problem solving, learning new technologies, and working across multiple disciplines such as user experience, business processes, data, and automation. Prior Appian experience is not requiredcuriosity, adaptability, and a willingness to learn are far more important. 

Key Responsibilities: “To simplify complexities for each customer.”   

Under the guidance of experienced Appian developers and team leads, the intern will: 

  • Contribute to building and configuring applications on the Appian low‑code platform 
  • Assist with implementing user interfaces, workflows, and simple business rules 
  • Support Agile delivery by helping execute user stories from the product backlog 
  • Participate in sprint planning, stand‑ups, reviews, and retrospectives 
  • Collaborate with developers, testers, product owners, and designers in a cross‑functional team 
  • Help test applications, identify defects, and validate solutions meet user needs 
  • Document solutions, design decisions, and learned best practices 
  • Continuously learn low‑code development concepts, platform capabilities, and software delivery fundamentals 

Qualifications/Education/Certifications:      

Enrolled in (or recently completed) a Bachelor's degree program at a four-year college or university; preferably in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:                  

Required Qualifications: 

  • Familiarity with Agile software delivery concepts (coursework or project experience is sufficient) 
  • Strong problem‑solving and analytical thinking skills 
  • An interest in how people use software and what makes a good user experience 
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new tools and technologies 
  • Comfortable working collaboratively in a team environment 

Technical Exposure (Any of the Following) 

Candidates do not need deep expertise, but should have some exposure to one or more of the following: 

  • HTML and CSS (basic understanding) 
  • SQL or relational data concepts 
  • Simple programming or scripting languages 
  • Data modeling or working with structured data 
  • Experience with Java, C, or other traditional programming languages is a plus but not required.

  • Comfortable switching between design, configuration, testing, and troubleshooting

Physical Demands/Working Conditions:

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, geographical cost of labor, etc.  In addition to base pay, Healthesystems offers a comprehensive benefits package including, health, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, wellness resources, recognition programs, 401k contribution, and PTO & Holiday pay (all subject to eligibility requirements). Anticipated Starting Pay Range
$16$17 USD

To facilitate working from home, and as a requirement for this role, candidates must provide their own reliable, high speed internet access with sufficient bandwidth to execute all job functions. Company laptop will be provided.
