Azure DevOps (ADO) practitioner /Azure DevOps Technical Lead Location: Seattle, WA (Remote/Local-PST Times) (remote) Duration: 6 to 12 Months
Role Summary We are looking for a strong Azure DevOps (ADO) practitioner to partner closely with the FD&E leadership team during the transition to a new centralized Azure DevOps instance. This role is not a development position. Instead, the individual will act as a trusted ADO expert and advisor, helping ensure ADO is configured correctly to support portfolio visibility, standard reporting, and future application‐based portfolio management. The person will work side‐by‐side with the project lead, answer day‐to‐day questions, validate feasibility of requirements, and help ensure teams are onboarded to ADO in alignment with Azure standard definitions and best practices—without pulling time away from delivery teams.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as a subject‐matter expert on Azure DevOps, including structure, standards, and best practices
Partner closely with the project lead to translate portfolio and reporting needs into ADO‐ready configurations
Provide guidance on ADO work item hierarchy, fields, processes, queries, and dashboards
Help set up and validate ADO dashboards and native reporting (no Power BI)
Advise on Service Tree alignment and how ADO data should be structured to support it
Support TPM onboarding to ADO, ensuring teams follow defined standards and conventions
Answer frequent and sometimes basic ADO questions with patience and clarity
Act as a bridge between portfolio requirements and what ADO can realistically support
Ensure ADO is set up in a way that enables future portfolio management via a custom application
Required Skills & Experience
Strong, hands‐on experience with Azure DevOps (ADO)
Deep understanding of ADO structure, capabilities, and limitations
Experience building and maintaining ADO dashboards, queries, and views
Familiarity with Service Tree concepts and how engineering work maps to services
Understanding of Azure / Microsoft standard definitions and governance models
Excellent spoken and written English communication skills
Ability to collaborate closely with TPMs, portfolio leads, and stakeholders
Comfortable acting as an advisor rather than an executor or developer
Nice to Have
Prior experience working in Microsoft FD&E / FDNE environments
Background as a TPM, program manager, or ADO administrator
Curiosity and interest in Copilot / AI‐assisted tooling
Experience supporting large‐scale ADO rollouts or migrations
