Roles & Responsibilities

  • Vocational training or technical certification in electrical installations, renewable energy, or a related field (extensive experience in electrical installations or maintenance may substitute for formal education).

  • Strong attention to detail with good documentation habits and effective written and verbal communication; proficient in Microsoft Office and basic computer applications.
  • Willingness to travel up to 80% and ability to work in field environments, including outdoor conditions and climbing stairs or ladders.

Requirements:

  • Perform on-site inspections of solar PV installations to verify construction quality and compliance with established procedures, including visual and electrical checks.
  • Review and validate field measurement data, test procedures, and basic test reports to ensure consistency with site conditions; identify and document deviations or safety concerns.
  • Support field testing activities such as electroluminescence imaging, thermography, IV curve measurements, insulation resistance testing, and other performance indicators; operate and maintain testing equipment.
  • Coordinate with client representatives and contractors during site visits, participate in site coordination meetings, and contribute to field notes and final inspection reports.

Job description

INTERTEK CLEAN ENERGY ASSOCIATES (CEA) provide technical due diligence and engineering services for solar and storage

clients around the globe who are financial institutions, project developers, EPCs, IPPs (independent power

producers), and PV power plant owners. From our base in China, our team of engineers travel to factories around

the globe to conduct upstream in-factory quality assurance via audits, production monitoring and pre-shipment

product inspection. From our USA base, our engineering (IE/OE) team provides system design, energy forecasting,

product benchmarking, and supply chain services. Downstream, we audit projects through the full cycle, including

design, construction, commissioning, project performance, re-power and upgrade analysis, and warranty support.

Our team of 125+ professionals including 85+ engineers serve the solar and storage industry through our expertise

in PV modules, racking, inverters, and energy storage systems. Since 2008, CEA has reduced Buyers’ risks and

improved returns on investments via technical assurance and engineering services covering more than 55 GW+ in

50+ countries.

The Solar PV Field Testing Technician will be responsible for supporting field-based technical services throughout

the lifecycle of solar PV projects, with a primary focus on on-site testing, verification, and data collection. The role

includes performing regular field inspections to assess installation quality, carry out visual and electrical checks, and

ensure that measurements and test results are accurate and consistent with site conditions. The technician will also

conduct basic reviews of collected data and reports to confirm alignment with field observations.

The candidate will coordinate with contractors and client representatives on site, follow internal procedures, and

report any deviations, safety concerns, or quality issues identified during inspections. Experience with PV

installations is valued, although extensive experience in electrical installations or maintenance is also suitable. Good

communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in a field environment are essential.

  • Carry out visual and electrical checks following standardized testing protocols.
  • Review and validate field measurement data, test procedures, and basic test reports to ensure consistency
  • with site conditions.
  • Identify, document, and follow up on deviations, defects, or safety concerns until they are resolved.
  • Participate in site coordination meetings to communicate findings and ensure all required documentation
  • is provided by stakeholders.
  • Support the collection and preliminary review of PR measurements, IV curve data, and other performance indicators.
  • Assist with field testing activities such as electroluminescence (EL) imaging, thermographic inspections, curve tracing, insulation resistance testing, and general visual inspections.
  • Operate, maintain, and properly handle testing equipment including IV tracers, EL cameras, insulation
  • resistance meters, infrared cameras, clamp meters, and multimeters.
  • Coordinate with client representatives and contractors prior to and during site visits to ensure readines for testing activities.
  • Contribute to the preparation of field notes and provide input to final inspection reports to confirm that
  • results match field observations.

Requirements

  • Strong attention to detail, good documentation habits, and the ability to follow standardized procedures.
  • Good communication skills (written and verbal) and proficiency with Microsoft Office and basic computer

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a field‑based team.
  • Previous experience performing electrical tests, measurements, or inspections is preferred.
  • Experience with PV module or inverter testing is a plus.
  • Experience using DSLR cameras is an advantage (for EL imaging and visual documentation).
  • Ability to work outdoors in demanding conditions, including high/low temperatures, nighttime operations,
  • long periods standing, and climbing ladders or stairs.
  • Ability to correctly use personal protective equipment (e.g., safety shoes, gloves, safety glasses, reflective
  • vest, hearing protection).
  • Basic understanding of common failure modes in PV systems or electrical installations is preferred.
