Job Role: Senior Tax Accountant

Work Schedule: Flexible with a required 9:00am daily team huddle (AU time)

Compensation range: $1,500 AUD - $2,500 AUD / Monthly

Who We Are: At Hunt St, we help Australian companies hire top remote talent in the Philippines. For this role, you will be formally employed through an Employer of Record (EOR) arrangement. We are not an outsourcing agency. All of our roles are 100% remote, so you’ll be able to work from home.

Who The Client Is: It is a business advisory and accounting firm that works with business owners to help them better manage their finances and overall business performance. They provide practical support across key areas such as bookkeeping, tax compliance, financial reporting, and cash flow management, along with tailored guidance to help improve decision-making. By taking the time to understand each business’s needs, they deliver clear and actionable advice that simplifies financial complexity and supports more efficient operations and long-term, sustainable growth.

Role Overview: We are seeking an experienced Senior Tax Accountant to manage business, trust, and complex individual tax returns, with a strong focus on small business advisory and tax planning. The role involves working directly with the Director and Associate, delivering high-quality outputs with minimal supervision, and liaising directly with clients. Initially, the focus will be on hands-on individual contribution rather than team mentoring or supervision, with the potential to grow into a leadership role overseeing a team of junior accountants and bookkeepers in the future.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage preparation and lodgment of business, trust, and complex individual tax returns
  • Provide proactive tax planning and advisory services, with a focus on small business clients
  • Review work prepared by junior accountants to ensure accuracy and compliance
  • Liaise directly with clients and handle queries with minimal supervision
  • Contribute to small business advisory services as a core component of the role
  • Ensure all work papers and supporting documentation are complete, accurate, and compliant

Requirements

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in accounting or tax compliance roles
  • Working knowledge and familiarity with Australian tax, including business, trust, and individual tax returns.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, particularly Excel and Word (Apple/Mac systems are not used in the firm)
  • Advanced experience using Xero accounting software
  • Experience with Xero Practice Manager, particularly for WIP (Work in Progress) tracking and timesheets
  • Strong hands-on experience in FBT, particularly motor vehicle and entertainment benefits
  • Working knowledge of Div 7A, including ability to identify applicability and prepare supporting workpapers
  • Experience in providing comprehensive tax planning services
  • Experience reviewing and mentoring junior staff
  • Strong client communication skills with the ability to work independently
  • High attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work
  • Experience with small business advisory services is highly desirable

Work Arrangement & Expectations:

This is a remote role that will be set up via an Employer of Record (EOR) service.

To ensure alignment and transparency, successful candidates will be expected to:

  • Disclose any existing ongoing roles or client work
  • Reflect this engagement on their LinkedIn profile
