Responsibilities:
The Technologist- Application and Data Engineering is a hands‑on technical leader who owns delivery and operational excellence for Berkley Embedded Solutions’ SaaS platforms and business applications. In this role, you'll blend day‑to‑day engineering with coordination and governance—contributing directly to architecture, configuration, development, integrations, testing, and release readiness. We'll trust you to translate strategy into executable plans, uphold quality and compliance standards, and manage supplier SLAs and estimates for their initiatives. You'll be an essential partner bringing deep expertise in Back‑End engineering (with cross‑functional fluency) and use that depth to build scalable, reliable, customer‑centric solutions that power seamless embedded insurance experiences.

We'll count on you to:
- Lead & build: Act as a hands‑on technologist within a lean team—contributing directly to configuration, development, integrations, testing, and troubleshooting across SaaS platforms and business applications.
- Plan & prioritize: Translate business priorities into quarterly plans and roadmaps; define objectives, dependencies, and outcomes, and coordinate delivery across initiatives.
- Deliver with quality: Execute release readiness (requirements, acceptance criteria, UAT, cutover, post‑release validation) and uphold engineering best practices.
- Run and enhance the platforms: Configure, maintain, and optimize SaaS platforms and business applications to maximize business value. Lead troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis for complex issues.
- Automate: Design, build, and maintain workflow automations across SaaS platforms and APIs to eliminate manual processes and improve scalability, compliance, and business outcomes.
- Governance & risk: Apply delivery standards, documentation practices, and quality gates; manage risk, compliance, and audit‑ready documentation within assigned initiatives.
- Supplier & SLA Management: Manage supplier relationships and performance; track SLAs and escalate issues; support vendor proposals, technical evaluations, and investment recommendations.
- Data‑driven improvement: Define and track KPIs/OKRs; analyze system and process metrics to identify improvement opportunities and implement solutions that improve reliability and efficiency.
- Stakeholder communication: Serve as a trusted partner to business leaders; communicate progress, risks, and decisions with clear, structured reporting.
Technical Track
- Design and operate APIs, webhooks, and integration patterns using Node.js + Java; ensure resilient, observable, and scalable service interactions.
- Build and maintain data pipelines (ETL/ELT, orchestration, automation) and apply Python + SQL for data processing, workflow automation, and operational analytics.
- Apply data engineering practices (modeling, data quality checks, lineage) to ensure accurate, trustworthy operational and analytical data.
- Other duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
What you need to have:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field preferred.
- 6–9+ years delivering technology solutions with ownership of platform operations, releases, and multi‑project coordination.
- Hands‑on technologist who can design, build, test, and troubleshoot across SaaS platforms and integrations.
- Knowledge of embedded insurance; familiarity with product governance and regulatory considerations.
- Experience across insurance applications (policy administration, claims, billing, portals, EDW, document management) and API‑driven integrations.
- Proficient with Agile delivery (backlog, sprint/quarterly planning); uses KPIs/OKRs and data to drive improvements.
- Strong communication and influence skills; frames trade‑offs clearly for technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
- Back‑End: API and integration development with Node.js + Java; data pipelines & orchestration (ETL/ELT, automation); Python + SQL for data engineering and operational analytics.
- Demonstrated quality discipline (acceptance criteria, testing strategies, defect management, UAT).
- Vendor/SLA coordination (estimates, SOW participation, performance tracking, escalations).

The company offers a competitive compensation plan and robust benefits package for full time regular employees which for this role include:
• Base Salary Range: $160,000 - $185,000.
• Eligible to participate in annual discretionary bonus.
• Benefits: Health, Dental, Vision, Life, Disability, Wellness, Paid Time Off, 401(k) and Profit-Sharing plans.
The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment.
