Roles & Responsibilities

  • 9+ years of complex commercial and construction litigation experience in a law firm; trial experience is a plus.
  • Experience preparing and arguing pleadings and contested motions (complaints, motions to dismiss, motions for summary judgment, applications for temporary restraining orders, preliminary injunctions).
  • Experience taking and defending depositions and working with expert witnesses.
  • Admitted to the Washington State Bar; stellar writing ability and strong academic credentials (two writing samples required).

Requirements:

  • Collaborate with senior attorneys to handle complex commercial and construction litigation matters.
  • Prepare and argue pleadings and contested motions and manage deadlines (e.g., complaints, motions to dismiss, motions for summary judgment, TROs, preliminary injunctions).
  • Take and defend depositions and coordinate with expert witnesses.
  • Support fast-moving, deadline-driven cases such as non-compete and trade secrets actions, representing clients as both plaintiffs and defendants; thrive in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.

The Opportunity:

Seyfarth Shaw LLP, an international law firm with approximately 1000 attorneys, has an exciting opportunity for a highly qualified Litigation Counsel with 9+ years of commercial and construction litigation experience for a position in its Seattle office.

The Day-To-Day:

As a Counsel in the Litigation Department, you’ll have the opportunity to work on interesting, challenging, and groundbreaking cases in collaboration with senior attorneys

You Have:
  • 9+ years of complex commercial litigation and construction litigation experience in a law firm; trial experience is a plus
  • Experience preparing and arguing pleadings and contested motions (such as complaints, motions to dismiss, motions for summary judgment, applications for temporary restraining orders, preliminary injunction)
  • Experience taking and defending depositions and working with expert witnesses 
  • Desire to support fast moving deadline-driven cases, such as non-compete litigation and actions to protect trade secrets, where we represent clients as both plaintiffs and defendants
  • Stellar writing ability and excellent academic credentials, as writing ability is critical for this position (we ask that you submit two writing samples with your application)
  • Strong analytical and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a team-oriented and collaborative work environment
  • Candidates must be admitted to the Washington State Bar

The salary range for this role is $360,000 to $460,000. This range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in [insert location]. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee’s pay within the salary range will be based on numerous factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, and business or organizational needs. This job is also eligible for an annual merit increase and bonus pay.
