Roles & Responsibilities

  • Bachelor’s degree (highly preferred); at least four years of experience in conflicts in a law firm setting.
  • Thorough understanding of basic conflicts of interest principles as interpreted by the National Conflicts Manager, the Director of Conflicts and Business Intake, and the Conflicts Attorneys.
  • Proficiency with relational conflicts databases (e.g., Intapp Open or LegalKey) and online corporate research databases (e.g., Dun & Bradstreet, Capital IQ).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and the ability to learn new software; excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Requirements:

  • Train and mentor Conflicts Researchers to perform their duties according to conflicts of interest principles and department procedures.
  • Regularly evaluate the work product of Conflicts Researchers and provide immediate feedback on substantive and procedural issues; deliver annual written evaluations.
  • Coordinate scheduling of shifts and paid time off; monitor time sheets for hourly staff.
  • Generate new business conflicts of interest reports using conflicts software and online research tools.

The Opportunity:

As Conflicts Supervisor, you will support the National Conflicts Manager in managing the Conflicts Department by acting as the direct supervisor of selected members of the Conflicts staff. Informed by your experience as a conflicts professional and by the guidance of the National Conflicts Manager, you will train, mentor, and formally evaluate the performance of several entry level staff members. You will perform other administrative duties in support of the National Conflicts Manager as well, in addition to undertaking corporate research and conflicts searches yourself.  

The Day-To-Day:

On any given day, you will be working with firm leadership, partners, and department colleagues on a variety of requests and projects. You will:  

  • Train and mentor selected Conflicts Researchers to conduct the responsibilities of their position according to conflicts of interest principles, department procedures, and Firm business needs.  
  • Regularly evaluate the work product of Conflicts Researchers directly reporting to you and provide immediate feedback and guidance on substantive and procedural issues, as needed.   
  • Provide annual detailed written evaluations of the work product of Conflicts Researchers directly reporting to you.    
  • Coordinate scheduling of shifts and paid time off for all hourly department staff.  
  • Monitor and review time sheets for Conflicts Researchers reporting directly to you.   
  • Generate new business conflicts of interest reports according to department procedures, utilizing conflicts software and available online research tools.  
  • Demonstrate sound judgment in managing work assignments in relation to Firm and department priorities.  
  • Perform preliminary analysis of conflicts search results, for review by a Conflicts Attorney.  
  • Consult regularly with the National Conflicts Manager about the performance of the Conflicts Researchers directly reporting to you, about issues and suggestions related to production and workflow, and about any other subjects identified by the National Conflicts Manager.   
  • Other responsibilities, as required. 
You Have:
  • Bachelor’s degree, highly preferred. 
  • At least four years’ experience in conflicts in a law firm setting, required. 
  • A thorough understanding of basic conflicts of interest principles as further explained and interpreted by the National Conflicts Manager, the Director of Conflicts and Business Intake, and the Conflicts Attorneys.  
  • Thorough knowledge of all standard operating procedures affecting the work of department hourly staff and the ability to apply this information in a variety of practical situations.  
  • Proficiency with relational conflicts databases, such as Intapp Open or LegalKey. 
  • Proficiency in the use of online corporate research databases, such as Dun & Bradstreet and Capital IQ. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft programs including Outlook, Word, and Excel and the ability to learn new software is required. Experience working with PDF software is a plus. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Location Specific Language:

The salary range for this role is $104,000. to $110,000. annually, which is based on a 35 hour work week. This range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in Chicago. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee’s pay within the salary range will be based on numerous factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, and business or organizational needs. This job is also eligible for an annual merit increase and bonus pay.
