The company is a Melbourne-based residential building company specialising in high-end architectural homes, complex renovations, and bespoke residential construction projects.
Our projects typically involve close collaboration with architects, engineers, and specialist trades to deliver highly detailed and design-focused homes. Project values generally range from $1.5M to $4M+ and require careful planning, accurate estimating, and strong coordination between consultants and trades.
As our project pipeline continues to grow, we are seeking a highly capable Construction Estimator to join our team and support the pricing and procurement of upcoming projects.
This role will be a long-term full-time position integrated into our internal team.
What You'll Do:
You'll be the kind of person who:
The Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates, detailed take-offs, and managing the tender process for new residential projects.
The role requires someone who understands the Australian residential construction industry, including building methods, trade scopes, and construction sequencing.
This is not simply a quantity take-off role. We require someone capable of understanding construction drawings, identifying missing information, reviewing scopes of work, and preparing professional tender packages.
The estimator will work closely with the director and internal project team to ensure projects are accurately priced and commercially viable.
Estimating & Cost Planning
- Prepare detailed construction estimates from architectural and engineering drawings and other construction-related documentation.
- Complete quantity take-offs across all building trades
- Develop detailed BOQs (Bills of Quantities)
- Review project documentation including drawings, engineering, soil reports, and schedules
- Identify missing scope or inconsistencies within drawings (RFIs)
- Provide cost planning advice and preliminary budgets for projects
Tendering & Procurement
- Prepare and issue trade packages to subcontractors
- Obtain and review subcontractor quotations
- Compare trade pricing and prepare tender comparison reports
- Assist in selecting appropriate subcontractors for projects
- Negotiate pricing where required or assist with this
Documentation & Scope Review
- Prepare clear trade scopes of work for tender packages
- Assist in preparing construction budgets for new projects
- Identify risks, exclusions, or allowances within project pricing
- Maintain accurate estimate documentation and records
Internal Coordination
- Work closely with the Director / Project Manager / Site Supervisor to review project budgets
- Assist in value engineering where required to meet client budgets
- Provide estimating support during project procurement stages

What You Bring:
We're looking for someone who:
Software Experience
The ideal candidate will have experience using construction management and estimating software.
Preferred experience includes:
- Procore (highly desirable)
- Buildertrend
- Buildxact
- CostX
- Cubit
- Bluebeam
- Microsoft Excel (advanced level)
Experience with Procore would be ideal, however candidates with experience using similar construction management platforms will also be considered.
Australian Construction Experience (Critical Requirement)
The candidate must have experience working on Australian residential construction projects and demonstrate a strong understanding of:
- Australian residential construction methods
- Australian trade scopes and subcontractor structure
- Australian building documentation and drawings
- Local construction terminology and processes
- Typical residential project sequencing in Australia
Candidates who have previously worked for Australian builders, construction companies, or estimating consultancies will be strongly preferred.
Technical Knowledge Requirements
The estimator should have strong knowledge across the following residential building components:
- Excavation and site preparation
- Concrete and structural works
- Framing and structural timber
- Brickwork and external cladding systems
- Roofing systems
- Windows and glazing packages
- Internal linings and plaster
- Joinery and cabinetry
- Flooring systems
- Waterproofing and tiling
- Mechanical, electrical and plumbing scopes
- Landscaping and external works
Generally quite strong across all trades that are required on each build.
Candidate Profile
We are seeking someone who is:
- Highly detail-oriented
- Technically strong in construction knowledge
- Commercially aware
- Comfortable reviewing architectural drawings and all construction documentation
- Capable of identifying missing information within plans
- Able to communicate clearly with internal teams and consultants
- Organised and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously
The estimator should be capable of working independently while remaining closely integrated with the BUC team.
Working Structure
The Estimator will work directly with the Director and internal project team.
Primary responsibilities will include:
- Preparing estimates for upcoming projects
- Supporting procurement and trade tendering
- Assisting with project budgeting and cost planning

Ideal Candidate Experience
The ideal candidate will have:
- 5–10+ years experience in construction estimating
- Experience working on architectural or custom residential homes
- Experience estimating projects valued between $1M – $5M+
- Experience working with Australian construction companies
