The Texas Registered Professional Land Surveyor (RPLS) is a senior technical role responsible for the execution, quality assurance, and professional ownership of survey deliverables supporting Ascent Geomatics Solutions’ work in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and surrounding regions. This position is anchored by active Texas RPLS licensure, which is considered foundational to the role, and supports oil and gas, renewable energy, and infrastructure projects with a strong emphasis on technically complex boundary resolution and defensible survey deliverables.
This role is primarily internally focused and is not a department management position. The Texas RPLS serves as a trusted technical resource within the Permian program, working closely with the Survey Manager, project managers, and field teams to ensure survey work is executed efficiently, accurately, and in alignment with client expectations and regulatory requirements. Core responsibilities include professional review and certification of survey documents, ALTA oversight, and advanced boundary analysis in fast-paced project environments.
As the team grows, the role may provide day-to-day technical guidance, task coordination, and mentorship to a small number of survey technicians to support workload distribution and maintain quality and schedule performance. A New Mexico PLS license is considered a plus but is not required.
The ideal candidate brings strong technical judgment, practical experience in oil and gas survey workflows, and the ability to adapt that expertise to renewable energy and infrastructure projects, balancing accuracy, defensibility, and project pace without unnecessary rigidity.
Expected Results in the role:
- Survey deliverables are accurate, defensible, and delivered on schedule, supporting assigned projects.
- Boundary resolution, ALTA surveys, plats, and related documents are reviewed and certified with sound professional judgment, minimizing rework and downstream risk.
- Field data and survey documentation are complete, accurate, and processed in accordance with established standards and QA/QC expectations.
- Survey technicians receive clear technical guidance and task direction in support of quality, efficiency, and schedule performance.
- Collaboration with Project Management, Engineering, GIS, and Permitting teams results in coordinated deliverables and smooth handoff into downstream project phases.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Technical Execution & Certification
- Perform professional review, QA/QC, and certification of survey deliverables, including plats, ALTA surveys, boundary exhibits, and related documentation, in accordance with applicable laws, standards, and client requirements.
- Support ALTA survey execution by reviewing requirements, resolving technical issues, and ensuring deliverables meet contractual and professional standards.
- Prepare or modify survey exhibits and ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys in AutoCAD Civil 3D on a limited, as-needed basis to support project delivery, QA/QC, and schedule commitments.
Boundary Analysis & Resolution
- Execute and oversee complex boundary resolution, including Original Texas Land Survey (OTLS) and Public Land Survey System (PLSS) analysis, legal and record research, title review support, and resolution of boundary conflicts for assigned projects.
Field Data Review & Quality Control
- Review field data and survey records for completeness, accuracy, and consistency, identifying deficiencies and coordinating corrections as needed.
- Ensure survey data, records, and deliverables are processed, organized, and stored in accordance with company standards and data management practices.
Project Coordination & Technical Support
- Coordinate with the Survey Manager, Project Managers, and other team members to plan survey workflows, prioritize technical tasks, and maintain schedule commitments.
- Provide technical input during project scoping, execution, and issue resolution, supporting accurate assumptions, defensible decisions, and efficient delivery.
Technical Guidance & Collaboration
- Provide technical guidance and direction to survey technicians and field crews supporting assigned projects, including task clarification, feedback on work quality, and assistance with problem resolution.
- Collaborate with Engineering, GIS, and Permitting teams to support integrated project execution and ensure survey data is suitable for downstream use.
Standards & Continuous Improvement
- Assist with the development, refinement, and consistent application of survey standards, workflows, and QA/QC procedures.
