  • Conduct daily bank reconciliations and assist with monthly close to provide timely, accurate management reports.
  • Maintain accurate records in QuickBooks Online and legal practice management platforms, ensuring data is well-organized and up-to-date.

PJI Law, a boutique and fast-growing law firm in the Washington, DC area, is seeking a full-time remote Law Firm Bookkeeper to handle daily bookkeeping and financial tasks. This role requires strong attention to detail, accuracy, and a solid understanding of legal accounting processes. The ideal candidate will be organized, dependable, and able to work independently while maintaining the highest standards of accuracy and confidentiality. Our firm exists to help those who wish to plan for the legal protection and security of their families, sometimes in the wake of a personal loss, and this position is crucial in allowing us to effectively help them.


As Bookkeeper, you will be responsible for keeping our firm's books accurate and current on a daily basis. Key areas of focus include:


Trust Accounting

  • Record trust account transactions accurately, including retainers, deposits, disbursements, and transfers.
  • Maintain organized, audit-ready documentation for all trust activity.
  • Support monthly trust reconciliation processes under attorney supervision.


General Law Firm Bookkeeping

  • Manage day-to-day bookkeeping operations, including accounts payable, credit card reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance.
  • Record daily financial transactions, including cash receipts and disbursements.
  • Enter client costs and payments accurately and promptly into accounting and billing systems.
  • Enter vendor bills within 48 hours of receipt.
  • Support payroll journal entries and HR payroll administration.


Financial Accuracy & Reporting Support

  • Perform daily bank reconciliations to ensure the books are current.
  • Complete weekly reconciliation of expense platforms, including receipt compliance.
  • Support a timely month-end close (target: within 3 business days).
  • Provide accurate financial data to support management reporting.


Systems & Software

  • Maintain accurate records in QuickBooks Online and legal practice management platforms.
  • Ensure financial records are well-organized and consistently up to date.


Required qualifications for this role are:

  • Minimum 2–3 years of bookkeeping experience, preferably in a law firm or professional services environment.
  • Familiarity with trust accounting processes and legal accounting practices.
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks Online, Xero, or similar accounting software.
  • High attention to detail with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and handle sensitive financial data with discretion.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Absolute commitment to confidentiality, professionalism, and accuracy.


Preferred qualifications for this role include:


  • Experience with legal practice management software such as Clio Manage.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.


This position requires a person who is obsessed with attention to detail, who can do quick math in his/her head, who can eyeball numbers in a spreadsheet and instinctively catch an incorrect decimal point, percentage, formula, or other discrepancy, and who takes great pride in submitting a perfectly proofread report and a high-quality product. If you thought it was strange that anyone would catch or even care about one little decimal point in a report, then this position is not for you.


Technology Requirements

It is essential that you have the following, or be willing and able to obtain them, prior to your start date.


  • Computer with Solid State Drive (SSD), 500 GB storage or better, 16 GB RAM or better, and a CPU/processor capable of running Windows 11 or later (for example, Intel 8th gen processor)
  • Separate mouse
  • Webcam
  • Headphones with a microphone
  • Uninterrupted power supply (i.e., UPS, inverter)
  • Internet: fiber or equivalent, minimum 100 mbps. Uncapped and 24/7
  • Connection must be via Ethernet cable, rather than Wi-Fi. If necessary, it will be required to make adjustments/upgrades to your internet until the connection is apropriate for the work

You would have approximately 40 working hours per week, Monday through Friday, from approximately 9:00 am to 6:00 pm Eastern Time, meaning 3:00 pm/4:00 pm until 12:00 am/1:00 am South African Standard Time, depending on the time of year.


Compensation is in the range of $1,100 - $1,400 per month, paid in U.S. Dollars.
