Reports To: Senior Director of Academic Innovation, or designee

FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt (for Part-Time hourly)/Exempt (for Full-Time salary)

Pay Range: As indicated on contract

Classification: Certificated

School Calendar Days: Temporary Level Up Calendar

Location: Remote/Virtual with one required in-person event (date TBD)

 

Position Summary: The Temporary Teacher of Record is primarily responsible for monitoring student attendance, engagement, and academic progress throughout the Level Up learning period. They act as the first point of contact for families, providing weekly academic progress updates, helping connect students to their content teacher(s) for academic support, and processing all compliance documentation for the state. Additionally, the Temporary Teacher of Record is responsible for contributing to each student’s readiness to learn by providing needed guidance on independent study skills, collaborating to facilitate academic integrity meetings as needed, and building rapport with both the student and their family. Employees may teach in a variety of virtual, elementary and/or secondary educational, individual, and group teaching settings. Attendance at one in-person event is required (date TBD).

This position contributes to Elite Academic Academy’s instructional program and supports student academic success through instruction, curriculum development, student support, and/or educational program implementation. This role performs creditable service as defined by CalSTRS and aligns with the organization’s mission to provide innovative, student-centered learning experiences.

Essential Duties:

* Attends and actively participates in weekly program meetings with Level Up leadership.

* Communicate regularly with parents regarding event details, permission slips, attendance, and academic concerns, including students identified as in danger of failing.

* Send, track, and follow up on compliance documentation, ensuring timely completion.

* Works with a high level of independence and professional discretion under the general supervision of Level Up leadership.

* Upload and maintain engagement log information using attendance records to ensure accurate and up-to-date documentation.

* Communicate student concerns to the Content Teacher (CT) and collaborate through weekly meetings with the CT to align next steps, with Level Up leadership as needed.

* Supports the mission, vision, and goals of Elite Academic Academy.

* Calls, emails, and texts students and families regularly throughout the program to provide important progress updates and program reminders.

* Initiates family contact for students in need of re-engagement within three days; with guidance from designated lead, the TOR will also follow-up two additional times within the subsequent week to provide specific goals and accountability for the family.

* Records student engagement data as trained in compliance with Elite’s re-engagement policy.

* Completes all compliance documentation, including written agreements, attendance records, pull, organize, and upload student work samples, and assignment work records for each student.

* Responds to parent, student, and Level Up leadership inquiries within 24 hours of contact.

* Attendance at one in-person event is required.

Other Duties:

* Documents and reports to Elite Academic administration all formal disciplinary actions involving students and staff; addresses and resolves complaints from students, parents, and staff in a timely manner; and ensures compliance with the Elite Academic Uniform Complaint Policy, the Elite Academic Uniform Technology Policy, and the provisions of California Penal Code Section 11166 (Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act).

* Required to travel up to 100 miles to various public locations to meet with students. 

* Performs other duties as assigned

 

Knowledge and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

* Current trends and research concerning the growth and development of K-12 grade children.

* Principles, theories, practices, methods, and techniques used in curriculum development, instruction, and assessment.

* Procedures and best practices that promote appropriate student conduct.

* Educational research concerning extrinsic and intrinsic student motivation.

* Guidance and Special Education practices and procedures.

* Applicable sections of the Education Code and other applicable laws.

* Research methods and report writing techniques. Ability to:

* Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills.

* Communicate clearly in a timely manner, both orally and in writing

* Foster teamwork in a collaborative work environment.

* Direct, motivate, listen to, and establish effective rapport with students and parents.

* Analyze and assess student learning.

* Use technology in an effective manner for teaching, communicating, analyzing, and reporting.

* Motivate students to develop the skills, attitudes, and understanding needed to set a good foundation for secondary-level education, in accordance with each student's ability.

* Maintain professional, cordial relationships with students, parents, and staff.

* Monitor children in learning environments.

* Use good judgment in making reasonable decisions or recommendations in conjunction with other staff members and/or administrative leadership.

* Solve problems and take responsibility for a variety of situations in a reasonable manner where only limited standardization exists.

* Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

 

Education and Experience:

* BA or BS from an accredited college or university

* A valid, current, and appropriate California state teaching credential for teaching staff. A copy of Teaching Credential to be provided and kept current.

* Experience in:

* Instruction/curriculum/student support

* Personalized or non-traditional learning environments (preferred)

* NCLB Compliant

* ELL Authorization - CLAD, BCLAD desirable

* Passed CBEST

* Negative TB Test or Risk Assessment Questionnaire

* DOJ Fingerprint Clearance

* Valid CA Driver’s License

* First Aid/ CPR Certification

 

Use of Computer Technology:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have general knowledge of accounting software, database software, how to use the internet to find information and complete tasks, email usage, order processing systems, spreadsheet software, and word processing software. The Temporary Teacher of Record is expected to acquire and maintain a working computer with an internet connection and a printer. Teachers are expected to have a phone to be able to contact students and families.
