Roles & Responsibilities

  • 10+ years of experience in a data-intensive role
  • BS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics or related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • Experience administering large-enterprise SQL database environments; working knowledge of Azure databases (Managed Instance, Cosmos DB, Azure SQL, Synapse Dedicated SQL Pools, Data Lake)
  • Strong SQL Server T-SQL development; experience with PowerShell, Terraform, Azure DevOps/yaml, Containers, and Azure AD; familiarity with Azure analytics tools (Data Factory, Synapse, DataBricks)

Requirements:

  • Influence leaders across development, client operations, and IT to plan, prioritize, and ensure delivery of business applications; participate in data DevOps initiatives
  • Design, architect, and support data projects, including new data sources and data migrations, infrastructure planning, and deployment of test and production systems
  • Collaborate with development teams to define data-centric solutions and implement data architecture strategies; apply knowledge of Azure PaaS data services and security (Key Vault, Azure AD, private endpoints, managed identities)
  • Provide ongoing database monitoring, testing, documentation, and on-call support to resolve system problems and ensure timely project delivery

Azure Data Architect – 100% Remote
Minneapolis, MN (Remote)
6 Months plus Contract
Must work in CST

As a Data Architect, you will possess a well-rounded understanding of SQL Server, data architecture, database security, database development (TSQL), data migration, and Azure Data Services. You are recognized as an exemplary communicator and possess strong interpersonal skills combined with a demonstrated "hands on " approach as well as mentoring experience. Primary functions and responsibilities relate to database planning, modeling, development, performance tuning, partitioning, and disaster recovery.

Key Requirements/Qualifications:
  • 10 or more years' experience in a data intensive position.
  • BS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics or related field or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience administering large-enterprise SQL database environments.
  • Working knowledge with Azure Databases such as Managed Instance, Cosmos DB, Azure SQL, Synapse Dedicated SQL Pools, and Data Lake
  • Working knowledge of Azure Analytics services and tools such as Data Factory, Synapse, DataBricks, etc.
  • Experience with PowerShell, Terraform, Azure DevOps/yaml, Containers and Azure AD
  • Strong understanding of relational database architecture concepts.
  • Proficiency working with Windows platforms with concrete knowledge of system administration/internals.
  • SQL Server performance tuning and troubleshooting specialist.
  • Experience with complex data replication models utilizing snapshot, transaction and hybrid peer-to-peer models in a cloud-onprem-hybrid global environment.
  • Experience with data migrations and tooling which enable data migrations.
  • Proven analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • A successful track record of delivering complex business projects on time.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Knowledge of reinsurance a plus.
  • Strong experience with Microsoft TSQL development.

Your challenge would include the following:
  • Influence leaders in development, client operations, and IT infrastructure areas to plan and prioritize work and ensure delivery of business application support.
  • Participate in projects with delivery teams to embrace emerging technologies with a Data & DevOps mindset.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of DevOps culture which leverages Terraform, yaml pipelines, and Azure Devops (or equivalent tools).
  • Determine business requirements, infrastructure planning, and deploying test and production systems
  • Design, architect, and support data projects, such as new data sources, data migrations, etc.
  • Help define data-centric solutions to meet business requirements.
  • Collaborate with development teams on direction and apply depth of knowledge to design strategies, make recommendations for implementation of new systems and technologies, and facilitate the design and implementation of data architecture.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of different data-centric Azure PaaS services.
  • Working knowledge of security in Azure such as Azure Key Vault, Azure Active Directory, private endpoints, managed identities, etc.
  • Create and/or maintain data objects according to specifications and standards.
  • Perform database testing - including defining criteria, creating test scripts and scenarios, debugging, and documenting results.
  • Provide ongoing support for applications - including database monitoring and processing, handling customer questions and queries, investigating and solving system problems, and providing on-call support services.
  • Help create and maintain all required documentation per established processes and methodologies.
  • Perform other duties, project work, etc. as assigned.
