  • 6-8+ years of software engineering experience with deep expertise in data platform engineering, backend systems, and frontend application development.

Requirements:

  • Owns the business outcomes for the team in partnership with Product and Design, driving alignment across the technology stack and shortening feedback loops through rapid experimentation.
  • Owns and evolves the technical architecture for BEx and Merch Plays to improve availability, scalability, and data accuracy, planning phased, strategic infrastructure investments.
  • Leads engineering execution with code reviews, technical oversight, high engineering standards, automation tooling, workflow engineering, and AI-enabled development.
  • Mentors engineers, develops technical leadership, and collaborates with Product, Analytics, Merch Ops, Brand Management, and Supply Chain to translate business needs into scalable technical solutions.

Job description

 The Merch Tech Lead serves as the technical leader who owns key business outcomes and drives them by leading execution across the entire technology stack. Achieving these outcomes requires rapid experimentation, scaling successful experiments, and building infrastructure in phases while guiding a team of highly motivated engineers. The role also owns two platforms-Customer-facing BEx and the internal stakeholder-focused Operation Station. Together, these platforms support multi-million-dollar decisions across the business. Our goal with them is to leverage heuristics, internal stakeholders' insights, and AI to drive automation of actions. The core new module to be owned by this role is the Attribution Engine, which will tie our automation and measurement! 

Additionally, this role ensures we are building highly scalable data platforms, intuitive front-end experiences, and reliable workflow automation that enable hundreds of vendors to make better and faster decisions. 

The Merch Tech Lead is hands-on in guiding engineers, setting technical strategy, championing AI-enabled development, and establishing a culture of rapid experimentation. Shortening feedback loops is critical!  

How will you achieve success:
  • Owns the business outcomes for the team in partnership with Product and Design team members.  
  • Outside of business outcomes, significantly contributes to increased BEx adoption, reduced platform issues, and faster time-to-insights for merchants. 
  • Owns and evolves the technical architecture for BEx and Merch Plays to improve availability, scalability, and data accuracy. 
  • Drives tech decision-making that supports the multi-year growth of Merch Tech platforms, including planning phased, smart, and strategic investment in infrastructure 
  • Our users drive multi-million $ decisions on a daily basis. Their experience is most critical to ensure that it meets a high bar. Examples include measurably improves UI/UX performance: reduced latency, higher data consistency, stronger alerting, and monitoring systems. 
  • Ensures high-quality releases through code reviews, technical oversight, and strong engineering standards. 
  • Leads the engineering implementation of automation-driven tooling, new technologies, including workflow engineering and AI 
  • Collaborates deeply with Product, Analytics, Merch Ops, Brand Management, and Supply Chain to translate business needs into scalable technical solutions. 
  • Mentors engineers, develops technical leadership on the team, and fosters a culture of curiosity, accountability, and high ownership. 


  • What experiences will help you in this role:
  • 6-8+ years of software engineering experience, with deep expertise in data platform engineering, backend systems, and front-end application development. 
  • Proven ability to design rapid experiments AND/OR scaling up successful experiments and evolve large-scale distributed platforms. Strong communication with various types of stakeholders 
  • Experience as part of a small team, preferably in Indian startups 
  • Experience in B2B and e-commerce would be preferred
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in ambiguity with rapid iteration cycles. 
  • Demonstrated success in influencing cross-functional partners, including Product, Analytics, Merch Ops, and executive stakeholders. 
  • Prior experience with workflow automation, reporting platforms, or merchant/analytics systems is a plus. 
  • Ability to mentor and develop engineers at multiple levels.
