Software Engineer - Python

The Software Engineer-Python will join an agile development team responsible for developing, integrating and maintaining Python based systems and applications that support our data analytics, reporting, system integration and data science initiatives.  

The Software Engineer-Python should be passionate about code quality and software excellence, with extensive development experience.  Collaborating closely with other analysts, architects, and team members is a must.  This role blends software engineering, data management, and analytical problem solving to drive business insights and efficiency. 

Job Requirements   

• Design, develop, and maintain Python applications for data processing, analytics, system integration, and reporting. 
• Integrate internal and external systems through APIs, databases, and automation scripts. 
• Build, optimize, and document ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) workflows for structured and unstructured data. 
• Work closely with business teams to understand data requirements and deliver scalable, reliable solutions. 
• Implement best practices in code quality, data security, and performance optimization. 
• Contribute to technical documentation and ensure smooth handoffs across teams. 
• Participate in the internal community of practice sessions. 
• Perform all work in accordance with RouteOne quality programs. 
• Maintain safety, security, and privacy standards throughout all areas of responsibility.  

Knowledge  

• Knowledge of popular software development processes, i.e., agile, scrum, and feature driven development. 
• Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented programming. 
• Experience troubleshooting and resolving application defects within a mature production system.  
• Working knowledge in distributed systems, service-oriented architecture, and micro service frameworks.  
• Experience with testing frameworks such as pytest.  

Skills  

• Hands-on experience with libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, SQL Alchemy, Flask/FastAPI, and matplotlib/Plotly. 
• Experience with databases (such as Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, etc.) and data APIs. 
• Experience creating and maintaining CI/CD pipeline scripts. 
• Familiarity with API design, message queuing, and integration patterns. 
• Strong understanding of RESTful integrations, data pipelines, and cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure). 
• Excellent debugging, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.

• Collaborate with analysts to develop tools and pipelines that support machine learning and statistical analysis.  

Other Essential Requirements 

• 2-5 years’ experience as a software engineer with a strong development background. 
• College degree in Computer Science, certification or experience.
