STRUCTURAL TECHNOLOGIES is the in-house engineering business line of Structural Group.

VSL Civil is a full-service contractor specializing in critical transportation infrastructure. With extensive industry experience and advanced technical expertise, we tackle complex challenges and large-scale projects effectively.

We are currently recruiting for a Concrete Superintendent to support our Denver, CO team which supports projects throughout the intermountain region.

The Concrete Superintendent is responsible for directing and supervising all concrete construction activities, with a strong emphasis on reinforcing steel, complex formwork systems, and high-quality concrete placement and finishing. This role leads field operations to ensure concrete work is executed safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with contract documents, specifications, and quality standards.

Projects typically consist of large post tensioned structures, industrial tanks and containers, and heavy civil concrete structures.

As a successful candidate, you will also be responsible for:

Concrete Construction Oversight

  • Supervise all phases of concrete work including reinforcing steel installation, formwork erection, concrete placement, finishing, curing, and stripping

  • Direct crews working with multi-faceted and engineered form systems (gang forms, jump forms, plyform, shoring, falsework, custom and modular systems)

  • Ensure reinforcing steel is installed per plans, bar schedules, spacing, laps, hooks, couplers, and embeds

Reinforcing Steel & Embed Coordination

  • Verify rebar size, spacing, cover, development lengths, congestion resolution, and constructability

  • Coordinate installation of embeds, anchor bolts, sleeves, blockouts, and post-installed anchors

  • Prepare for and lead rebar and form inspections with owners, engineers, and inspectors

Concrete Placement & Finishing

  • Oversee concrete placements including mass pours, sloped slabs, elevated decks, walls, piers, and flatwork

  • Ensure proper placement techniques, consolidation, vibration, finishing, curing, and protection

  • Manage finishing tolerances, surface finishes, edge details, chamfers, and architectural requirements

  • Perform and verify concrete quantity takeoffs for pours, including allowances for waste, overbreak, and placement sequencing; coordinate ordered quantities with batch plants and pump operators

Safety & Quality Control

  • Enforce company and site-specific safety plans and OSHA requirements

  • Conduct daily safety briefings and job hazard analyses

  • Maintain strict quality control for concrete operations and promptly address non-conformances

  • General understanding of layout practices and equipment

Planning & Coordination

  • Develop daily and weekly work plans and concrete pour sequences including form cycling

  • Coordinate concrete mix designs, pump schedules, delivery rates, and backup plans

  • Work closely with management to maintain schedules and resolve field conflicts

Leadership & Communication

  • Lead foremen, crews, and subcontractors with clear expectations and accountability

  • Serve as the primary field contact for all concrete-related activities

  • Foster a culture of craftsmanship, safety, and teamwork

Candidates who meet the following criteria may be considered for this exciting position based in our large Operations division:

  • 7–10+ years of hands-on concrete construction experience, including supervisory roles

  • Demonstrated experience with reinforcing steel installation, concrete finishing, and complex form systems (Post-tensioning experience a plus)

  • Strong working knowledge of rebar detailing, formwork tolerances, and concrete placement methods

  • Ability to read and interpret civil structural drawings, bar lists, and specifications

  • Proven ability to manage crews, subcontractors, and multiple concrete operations simultaneously

  • Strong safety awareness and leadership mindset

  • Valid driver’s license

Our ideal Superintendent candidate is an innovative but decisive field manager who can work effectively in a highly collaborative, team-based environment; has the ability to set goals and expectations and hold others accountable; can encourage and mentor others; is approachable, empathetic and outgoing; can quickly gain trust and respect; and is able to establish and maintain relationships.
