Key Purpose of the Job:

Reporting to the Head of Technical Services Director, this position provides administrative and technical fire safety support to a large team of fire risk assessors across the UK.

Working with an established Fire Safety team, the primary responsibility will be to undertake technical auditing of Fire risk assessment reports that have been completed and submitted by our onsite assessors. Providing feedback to and mentoring fire risk assessors.

Typically, fire risk assessments vary in complexity and will range between small shop and office type businesses, up to and including large multiuse, high-rise buildings that may include engineered solutions to achieve compliance with current regulation.

Independent judgment is required to plan, prioritise, and organise a diversified workload. The most qualified candidate for this role will have experience providing technical fire safety advice and support to fire safety teams, individuals or clients previously.

This role would suit an experienced fire risk safety professional nearing the end of their career or looking to reduce time spent away from home with the role being hybrid.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Auditing reports to ensure technical compliance with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requirements.
  • Provide specialist advice to on-site assessors and operations team members as required.
  • Ensure adherence to BAFE 205 standards for validation of fire risk assessments to ensure consistency of reporting.
  • Achieve expected key performance indicators to meet client expectations.
  • Manage the volume of audit work
  • Undertake desktop reviews on a wide variety of premise types. To include fire risk assessment desk top reviews, review of fire strategy plans, fire door plans, compartmentation drawings, and other relevant fire safety plans and drawings.
  • Undertake peer review/validation of others work.
  • Actively coach and mentor fire risk assessors to drive continuous improvement in service delivery. Conduct on-site visits such as ad-hoc requests and quarterly or annual audits of fire risk assessors.
  • To deal with client enquiries/questions regarding completed fire risk assessments


Requirements

Essential Requirements:

  • Level 4 in Fire Risk Assessment or higher
  • Evidence of several years’ experience undertaking practical fire risk assessment activities including the preparation of reports.
  • Entry on the BAFE SP205 validator registry or prepared to be assessed for entry to the register.
  • To maintain competence and to remain on the BAFE SP205 register.
  • To carry out onsite Fire risk assessments as required to maintain competence.
  • To have used and demonstrate a good knowledge of a wide range of fire safety guidance documents and have an understanding of Building Regulation Fire Safety Approved Document B Volume 1&2
  • Able to work independently as well as in a collaborative environment.
  • Great Communication skills – written and verbal.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in all areas of work.
  • A full driving licence

Desirable Requirements for the Job:

  • Local fire authority – technical fire safety enforcement experience
  • Fire Engineering qualification Level 4
  • Problem assessment and resolution
