Requirements:

  • Develop personalized lesson plans based on student goals and skill levels, teaching core techniques (bowing, finger positioning, intonation), music theory fundamentals, repertoire development, and using online tools (metronomes, notation apps)
  • Engage students with consistent practice guidance, performance preparation, and offer individual or small-group lessons to accommodate different learning styles
  • Communicate progress updates to students and/or parents, share practice tips and recommendations, and address challenges with personalized strategies or practice plans
  • Manage administrative and technical tasks including tracking attendance, maintaining records, scheduling/rescheduling, and providing technical assistance for instrument setup and online platforms

Job description

This is a remote position.

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Cello/Violin Online Instructor to deliver engaging virtual lessons to students of various ages and skill levels. The instructor will design lesson plans tailored to individual learners, focusing on technique, musical expression and repertoire development. This position offers the flexibility of remote teaching with the opportunity to inspire students to grow as musicians.

Key Responsibilities:

Lesson Planning & Instruction:
  • Develop personalized lesson plans based on student goals and skill levels (beginner, intermediate or advanced).
  • Teach core techniques (bowing, finger positioning, intonation) and music theory fundamentals.
  • Guide students through repertoire selection, practice routines and performance preparation.
  • Use a variety of online tools (metronomes, notation apps) to enhance learning.
Student Engagement & Mentorship:
  • Encourage consistent practice habits and provide feedback on technique and musicality.
  • Prepare students for recitals, exams or auditions, offering constructive support.
  • Foster an engaging, motivating online learning environment to enhance student retention.
  • Offer individual or small-group lessons to accommodate different learning styles.
Parental and Student Communication:
  • Communicate progress updates regularly to students and/or parents.
  • Share practice tips and recommendations for supplementary learning materials.
  • Address any student challenges through personalized strategies or practice plans.
Administrative & Technical Support:
  • Track attendance and maintain accurate student records.
  • Manage lesson schedules and coordinate rescheduling or cancellations.
  • Provide technical assistance to students for setting up instruments and accessing online platforms.


Requirements

Education & Certifications:
  • Degree in Music, Performance or Education (or equivalent professional experience).
  • Certification in a music program (Suzuki Method, ABRSM or Royal Conservatory) is a plus.
Experience:
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in teaching cello/violin (online or in-person).
  • Professional performance experience is desirable but not mandatory.
Skills:
  • Expertise in violin or cello technique and repertoire.
  • Ability to teach students of varying ages and musical backgrounds.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to motivate learners remotely.
  • Familiarity with music theory, sight-reading and ear-training techniques.
Technical Requirements:
  • Reliable internet connection, computer with webcam and microphone.
  • Proficiency with virtual teaching tools (Zoom, Google Meet or music teaching apps).
