Responsibilities

  • Contribute to multiple workshops and meetings across Ecuador, Colombia, Costa Rica, Panama, and Peru.

Job description

This is a remote position.

We are looking for Spanish <> English interpreters for in-person, virtual, or hybrid services and translation services, and virtual simultaneous interpretation.


Subject Matter: Technical law enforcement relating to fisheries management and marine policy or similar.

The ability to interpret/translate technical law enforcement and fisheries policy-based conversations in meetings and training, and documents from English to Spanish and vice versa will be essential. 

Preference will be given to linguists residing in Ecuador, Colombia, Costa Rica, Panama, and Peru.

Must have experience presenting technical language related to topics including fisheries management, marine policy, and/or law enforcement and other similar or related topics in Spanish and English. 


About the Project


Starting in August 2023, you will be part of a team providing in-person and virtual simultaneous interpretation services for multiple workshops, meetings, or training lasting between 1 and 10 days in any of the following countries: Ecuador, Colombia, Costa Rica, Panama, and Peru.


These workshops focus on technical skills, law enforcement operations, screening vessels for suspicion of illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing activities, vessel inspection procedures, the implementation of the Port State Measures Agreement (PSMA), and detection of IUU fishing violations.

Additionally, provide in-person simultaneous interpretation services for meetings, training, or workshops in dynamic locations, such as on boats, in the field, visiting different offices in a city or town, etc. These services will require that the interpreters are mobile and will not be able to use an interpretation booth. Dynamic location needs can range between a half day to 6 days of interpretation in the following countries: Ecuador, Colombia, Costa Rica, Panama, and Peru.


Requirements

Must have the following qualifications: 


1. Written and verbal bilingual, professional fluency in Spanish and English (interpreters and translators). 


2. Experience or professional familiarity in both languages with technical topics including fisheries management, marine policy, and international law (interpreters and translators).

 

3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills (all). 


4. Preference will be given to linguists residing in Ecuador, Colombia, Costa Rica, Panama, and Peru.



Benefits

This contract begins in August 2023.

This is a 1099 Contract Position.

We pay twice per month on the 1st and 15th of each month.


Salary: $25-$75/HR DOE
