Roles & Responsibilities

  • Bachelor's Degree in chemistry, biochemistry, or closely related physical or biological science, or equivalent industry experience
  • 3-5 years of relevant sales and/or business development experience
  • Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office; strong database experience; CRM experience (prefer Salesforce)
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills; results-oriented, self-motivated, and able to work independently and in a team

Requirements:

  • Research, identify, and qualify new sales opportunities within assigned territory or market segments (e.g., Environmental, Food & Beverage, Pharma/Life Sciences, Petrochemistry, Toxicology)
  • Travel to visit new and existing OEM customers, attend relevant trade shows, and conduct outbound outreach with inbound lead follow-up in collaboration with technical sales and marketing
  • Engage with prospective clients to understand technical challenges and introduce ARM product solutions; maintain accurate customer information in CRM and utilize system reports to identify opportunities
  • Collaborate with marketing to promote sales opportunities; keep management informed of sales activities and complete expense reports, call reports, and assigned projects on time

Job Title: Representative, OEM Business Development 

Reports To: Vice President & General Manager (VP & GM),   Analytical Reference Materials (ARM)

Location: United States - Remote

FLSA Status: Exempt 

 

Position Summary: 

The desired candidate will be effective in establishing relationships in order to increase sales to targeted OEM clients within the Analytical Reference Materials (ARM) industry. This role is responsible for identifying, qualifying, and nurturing new business opportunities across targeted markets. The Business Development Representative (BDR) will serve as a key point of contact for potential new OEM customers, generating demand for our products through outbound outreach, inbound lead follow-up, and close collaboration with the technical sales and marketing teams.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Research, identify, and qualify new sales opportunities within assigned territory or market segments (e.g., Environmental, Food & Beverage, Pharma & Life Sciences, Petrochemistry, and Toxicology)
  • Routing sales travel to visit new and existing OEM customers and attend relevant trade shows.
  • Engage with prospective clients to understand their technical challenges and introduce appropriate product solutions.
  • Work closely with marketing to recognize and promote sales opportunities.
  • Ensure that databases are current and updated with accurate customer information.
  • Routinely pull and reference system reports in order to identify additional sales opportunities.
  • Execute timely preparation of all expense reports, call reports, and assigned projects.
  • Keep management and sales team members informed of all relevant sales activities. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.   

 

Education: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree from accredited higher learning institution, preferably in chemistry, biochemistry, or closely related physical or biological science - or equivalent industry experience.

 

Experience: 

  • Requires 3-5 years of relevant sales and/or business development experience. 

 

Qualifications: 

  • Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft office applications is required, and strong database experience is desirable. 
  • Interpersonal skills to build relationships with and to conduct professional and courteous phone conversations with internal and external customers. 
  • Must be results oriented and self-motivated; strives to achieve targets and goals - is assertive and proactive.β€― 
  • Advanced knowledge of chemistry techniques including Gas Chromatography (GC), Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP), Liquid Chromatography (LC), Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS), Mass Spectrometry (MS), etc. 
  • Experienced with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) database management, preferably Salesforce. 
  • Excellent technical and analytical skills; ability to learn ARM product portfolios in order to participate in promotions and probe effectively. 
  • Ability to analyze data and compile reports as needed.β€― Must be able to assimilate data and draw conclusions. 
  • Must possess a customer-focused mentality to meet and exceed our customers’ expectations. 
  • Ability to manage and execute multiple projects concurrently to successful completion, meet deadlines, and follow-up in a timely manner through excellent organizational, planning, prioritization and multi-tasking skills. 
  • Ability to work both independently and also within a Team atmosphere – as appropriate. 
  • Strong selling and negotiation skills, conferring an ability to independently negotiate and manage relationships with a plurality of customers, as well as execute key sales strategies.β€― 
  • Thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, works efficiently under pressure, delivers work products within deadlines or other stipulated time constraints.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to clearly and concisely communicate within all levels of the organization.
  • Strong work ethic and an ability to excel within a rapidly changing and growing organization.
  • Ability to travel - up to 40%.

 

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Salary Range: $70k-$90k, depending on location, experience, and qualifications. 
  • Commission range: $24k-$30k
