This is a remote position.

About Nexton:

We’re looking for a highly autonomous, driven AI Engineer to help build Nexton’s AI Research & Applications practice. This role blends applied AI research with hands-on technical consulting: you’ll turn market and talent data into AI-powered tools, insights, and presentations that elevate our recruiting strategy and client delivery. You’ll partner closely with the Recruiting Strategy Manager and Director of Recruiting Services, shaping the research roadmap and shipping production-ready solutions.

You’ll thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment—digging into market nuances, modeling effective selling strategies, and packaging your findings into high-impact demos and executive-ready narratives. Day to day, you’ll collaborate with the Revenue Team (Client Partners, Customer Success, Account Executives), Customer Operations, and the Recruiting Team to discover opportunities, prototype AI features, and guide adoption across the business.

Responsibilities:

Design, prototype, and productionize LLM-powered services (chat, agents, summarization, extraction, routing, classification).
Build and evolve RAG pipelines: document ingestion, chunking, embeddings, vector search, retrieval strategies, and evaluation.
Develop Python services and REST APIs to expose AI capabilities; integrate with internal and third-party systems.
Select, fine-tune, and/or distill models (open and closed) and implement prompt engineering, tooling, and guardrails.
Collaborate in Agile ceremonies (Daily, Retro, etc.), participate in design reviews, code reviews, and incident postmortems.
Be hands-on with the team to ensure high quality, reliability, security, and privacy in data and model usage.

Requirements

5+ years professional software engineering experience.
3+ years with Python and FastAPI building backend services and APIs.
6 months of Practical experience with LLM stacks: OpenAI/Anthropic/Gemini APIs, or open-source models (e.g., Llama, Mistral) and inference tooling.
Experience with RAG and vector databases (e.g., PostgreSQL+pgvector, Pinecone, Redis).
Solid knowledge of prompt design, evaluation, and safety/guardrails
Proficiency with Docker, Git, and Agile methodologies
Fluency in Spanish.
Intermediate English (B1–B2).
Experience working with US based companies.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Nice to have:

2+ years applying ML/NLP in production (LLMs, transformers, embeddings) with PyTorch or TensorFlow.
Experience in a high-growth startup or tech environment.
Presentation skills.
