Back-End Developer

Our client is looking for a Backend technologist to build services and APIs to support our next generation of products. You will join our team of other world-class Engineers and collaborate closely with our Operations, UX/UI Design, Product, Marketing, and external teams. While we prefer candidates located in Chicago, we will consider exceptional applicants in other locations.

Responsibilities

• Leveraging deep technical knowledge to solve complex business problems

• Exemplifying high standards and attention to detail in aesthetics of code, user experience, and security

• Willingness to mentor dev teammates and be mentored by freight industry experts

• Understanding the latest emerging technology and knowing when and when not to use it

• Codifying our software development process, including procedures for writing unit tests, performing code reviews, etc.

• Supporting production deployments

• Perform other duties as assigned
  
  

Required Technology Skills

• Experience developing code in at least 1 backend language (Java, Kotlin, Scala, NodeJS, Ruby, C#, etc.)

• Bonus points for proficiency in the JRE space

• Experience creating and integrating with API technologies such as: REST APIs and/or GraphQL

• You can skillfully write high-quality, performant, and well-tested code

• You have extensive experience developing and deploying software products

• You advocate for technical excellence while being open to change when needed

Bonus Skills/Qualifications

• Experience working with AWS Services such as AWS Lambda, ECS, RDS, SQS/Event Bus

• Experience working with SQL and NoSQL databases such as MySQL, Postgres, DynamoDB, MongoDB, etc.

• You are present in the external tech community and proactively share your expertise with others via speaking engagements, contributions to open source, blogs, and more

• You're resilient in ambiguous situations and can approach challenges from multiple perspectives
