Since 2019, and thanks to the support from the European Commission, OpenNebula Systems has been leading the edge computing innovation in Europe , investing heavily in research and open source development, and playing a key role in strategic EU initiatives such as the IPCEICIS and the “European Alliance for Industrial Data, Edge and Cloud”.

We are currently looking for a Cloud Systems Developer to come and join us in Europe as part of our new team developing the next generation management platform for the CloudEdge Computing Continuum.

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled DevOps Engineer with a strong background in Terraform and public cloud platforms. As a DevOps Engineer, you will play a critical role in designing, implementing, and managing automated deployments of OpenNebula and virtualized infrastructures. Your expertise in Terraform will be essential for improving and extending the OpenNebula Terraform provider. Additionally, your experience with various cloud providers will be crucial for integrating the OpenNebula platform with them.

Responsibilities

Develop and maintain Terraform modules for provisioning and managing virtualized infrastructures.
Design the automated deployment of virtualized infrastructures combining Terraform, Ansible and OpenNebula APIs.
Integrate OpenNebula with different cloud public cloud providers.
Understand and address the limitations and peculiarities of the networking and storage models of different cloud providers.
Testdriven development of large solutions integrating and extending open source products, and using Git based workflows to develop new features in the project repositories.
Extend the integration of OpenNebula with Kubernetes
Writing and maintaining software documentation
Working with user use cases to test, debug, and troubleshoot software, assuring quality and functionality
Working with other companies in the cloudedge ecosystem within international projects and opensource communities. Availability to occasional travel and participation in international events and meetings
Working with the integration and deployment teams in support and issue troubleshooting and triage, the use cases and solutions team in discovery and demo sessions, and the community team in contributions to the opensource community

Experience required
Academic Background and Certifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field

Professional Experience

Handson experience in cloud systems development and integration for cloud computing using opensource technologies.
Excellent problemsolving skills and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.
Experience integrating computing systems specially related to virtualization, storage and networking.
Experience deploying and using monitoring and alerting tools like Prometheus. Design monitoring metrics and associated data structure.

Technical Experience

Experience writing Terraform modules and managing deployments of virtualized infrastructures with Terraform.
Strong understanding of the networking and storage models of various cloud providers.
Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Ruby, Bash) for automation.
Familiarity with containerization technologies (Kubernetes). Good understanding of k8s ecosystem: networking infrastructure (CNI), Helm, persistent storage solutions.
Automated configuration management using Ansible, ensuring consistency across multiple environments.

Language Skills

English fluency at a professional or nativeequivalent level, with excellent clarity and expression in both writing and speech.

Soft Skills & Collaboration

Strong customer service mindset, with a focus on responsiveness and user satisfaction.
Clear communication and documentation with strong written and verbal English, async collaboration, and visibility of work.
Selfmanagement and accountability with ability to work independently, manage time, and take ownership of tasks and deadlines
Technical autonomy and tool proficiency with confidence in using Git, CICD, remote collaboration tools (Slack, Zoom, GitHub, etc.), and solving problems without direct supervision
