Job description

About Take Command

Take Command is a start-up on a mission to improve the healthcare system, starting with health insurance. Pragmatically speaking, we help employers reimburse employees for individual insurance instead of offering a traditional one-size-fits-all group plan. We believe this model can empower employees (when they have the right support) to be savvy healthcare consumers and have a transformative impact on the entire healthcare system.

Let’s be honest—health insurance is usually a confusing, frustrating, and even emotional experience for people. We want to fix that with a new model, great technology, and a superior user experience. We have made a great start, but we need your help to fully realize our long-term vision.

SMB Account Executive (Inbound Sales – Brokers & Small Businesses)

About the Role:
Take Command is growing fast, and so is the demand for our innovative health insurance solutions. As an SMB Account Executive, you’ll play a key role in responding to inbound leads from small to medium-sized businesses and benefit consultants (brokers) who are interested in our platform. This is a consultative, high-impact sales role focusing on meaningful educational conversations.

You’ll guide business owners and brokers through the buying journey: listening, educating, answering questions across phone, email, and Zoom, ultimately helping them adopt our platform. Additionally, you’ll help shape the future of our sales process by providing feedback and ideas for improvement.

Start-Up Energy, Steady Momentum: We’ve been around long enough to have a proven product and strong market demand—but we still operate with a startup mindset. That means you’ll be joining a fast-moving, collaborative team that’s not afraid to rethink processes, test new ideas, and continuously improve. Your voice matters here. If you see a better way to do something, we want to hear it—and we’ll likely ask you to help us build it.

What You’ll Do:

  • Handle inbound leads from our website, broker partners, and marketing campaigns.
  • Educate and consult with small business owners and benefit consultants to uncover needs and recommend solutions.
  • Create tailored proposals, follow up on opportunities, and guide leads through the buying process to close deals via phone, email, and zoom meetings with professionalism and enthusiasm.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with benefits consultants to strengthen our broker partnerships.
  • Collaborate with our Sales, Growth, and Marketing teams to continuously improve our lead response, messaging, and strategy.
  • Contribute insights to help us refine our sales collateral, tools, and overall experience.
  • Maintain accurate records in our CRM (HubSpot), tracking communications and pipeline progress.
  • Consistently achieve target close rates based on lead source, supported by a proven sales process and comprehensive training program designed to set you up for success.

What We’re Looking For:

  • 1–2 years of experience in customer service, inside sales, or sales development—preferably in a SaaS or tech-enabled environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with a talent for active listening.
  • Ability to understand nuanced client needs and tailor recommendations accordingly.
  • Knows how to ask the right questions to get beyond the surface and uncover hidden client needs through thoughtful, open-ended conversations.
  • Proficiency in CRM systems (HubSpot preferred).
  • Strong problem-solving and follow-through skills.
  • A self-starter mindset with great time management and organizational abilities.
  • Comfortable working independently but excited to collaborate with a team.

Bonus Points For:

  • Experience working with brokers, consultants, or in the benefits/insurance space.
  • Previous consultative sales training or experience.
  • Enthusiasm for health insurance reform and helping small businesses thrive.
  • A knack for simplifying complex topics in a clear, approachable way.

What You Can Expect from Us:

  • Licensing Support: We’ll help you earn your health insurance license—we cover the cost and provide guidance.
  • Mission-Driven Culture: We’re passionate about solving tough problems for small businesses and enjoy building a team that cares.
  • Growth Opportunity: Your feedback and ideas matter—we want teammates who are excited to grow with us.
  • Supportive Environment: You’ll be coached, encouraged, and celebrated as you learn and develop your craft.

Join a team that’s transforming the way small businesses and brokers navigate health benefits—and have fun doing it.
Apply today and help us make health insurance more human.

Compensation: $80,000 OTE ($50,000-$60,000 base salary + $20,000 variable)

Working at Take Command

We’re excited to build a team and culture that reflects our values! We offer competitive pay and health benefits to share with this position.

  • A generously funded ICHRA for medical, dental, and vision premiums and medical expenses. You get to use our own product and we think that’s so exciting and rare!
  • Unlimited personal vacation in addition to regular company holidays.
  • 401(k): 90-day eligibility for 4% match that vests over 4 years with a one year cliff!
  • We have two beautiful offices in Richardson, Texas (City Line) and Austin, Texas. The kitchen is well-stocked and we've designed the space to have lots of different areas to work--lounge on the couch, stand near your colleague at a kiosk desk or hole up in one of our phone rooms!
  • Paid parental leave for new parents.
  • Flexible on where you work – we hope to see you around the office on average 3 days a week especially when white-boarding or building relationships with your colleagues, but you also have the ability to work from home or wherever you'd like when you need to get focus work done.

More About Us

We secured our Series B funding in 2023 and are thrilled to be able to expand our team. Despite being a small startup in a land of health insurance giants, we’re the recognized industry leader for what we do (health insurance reimbursements) and passionate about bringing it to market because we know we can help fix a broken system and improve our clients’ wellbeing and health outcomes.

We’ve been featured in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Dallas Morning News, and other national healthcare publications and are excited about our growth opportunities.

Take Command knows diversity and inclusion among our teammates is integral to our company’s success and growth. Our vision is to recruit, develop, and retain the best team from a diverse candidate pool.

This has mostly been about us, but we’d love to hear from you--we can’t wait to hear your story!

*Take Command is an equal opportunity employer! We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
