Job description

Salary Range: $50,000 to $60,000 per year

Location: Remote (WFH) with location restrictions within the United States. For tax and compliance purposes, this role is open only to candidates that will work or reside in the following states: AR, AZ, CA, CO, FL, GA, ID, IL, LA, MO, NC, NJ, NV, NY, OH, TX, VA, WA, WI, WY.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Quality Technician with hands-on experience working in a USDA-regulated production facility. The ideal candidate will play a key role in maintaining food safety and quality programs in compliance with USDA, FSIS, and internal standards. This role requires a working knowledge of HACCP systems, FSIS labeling requirements, QMS (Quality Management Systems), and food safety audits. The candidate must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with cross-functional teams and digital communication tools.


Essential Functions

  1. Monitor and verify production processes for USDA and company compliance.
  2. Maintain and update quality and food safety documentation in digital systems (e.g., electronic filing platforms).
  3. Conduct routine checks and internal audits of HACCP plans, SOPs, sanitation logs, and CCPs.
  4. Assist in the preparation and response to USDA FSIS audits and inspections.
  5. Review and manage FSIS-compliant product labels to ensure regulatory accuracy.
  6. Collaborate with QA, production, and R&D teams to ensure adherence to QMS protocols.
  7. Track and keep records of complaints, CAPAs, and communicate any issues internally and externally.
  8. Communicate findings and corrective actions using platforms such as Slack and other communication tools.
  9. Track and trend non-conformances and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  10. Organize, maintain, and update documentation for co-manufacturers and other legal partners.
  11. Organize and maintain digital and physical documentation for traceability and audit readiness.

Competencies

  1. Strong understanding of HACCP principles, food safety, GMP audits, and USDA/FSIS requirements (experience in frozen meat, fish, seafood is a plus).
  2. Familiarity with GFSI standards such as BRC, SQF and electronic document control platforms such as Monday.com and Dropbox.
  3. Have an understanding of FSIS labeling principles.
  4. Proficient in Slack, Google Workspace or Microsoft Office, and other digital communication tools.
  5. Highly organized with strong attention to detail and record-keeping.
  6. Effective communicator with the ability to work independently and within a team.
 

Required Education and Experience

  1. 2+ years of relevant experience in a food production environment regulated by the USDA.
  2. Experience in a role incorporating HACCP principles, food safety, GMP audits, and USDA/FSIS requirements.
 

Preferred Education & Experience

  1. HACCP certification preferred.
 

Work Environment and Physical Demands

This job operates in a clerical, office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies that weigh up to 20 pounds, and to bend and stand as necessary.  

 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position during regular business hours (for example, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the employee’s time zone). Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Some out of the area travel and overnight may be expected.
