Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Claims Manager will manage a team of homeowners and commercial claims supervisors and examiners in the investigation of standard and highvalue property insurance claims for commercial or dwelling losses based on coverage, appraisal, and verifiable damage. They will provide leadership to their assigned team to ensure maximum quality, efficiency and adherence to Department of Insurance regulations and internal Claims practices and policies. Some additional responsibilities may include establishing procedures for claims processing, investigating and resolving complaints, and developing strategies for improving overall claims performance.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage a team of homeowners and commercial supervisors and claims examiners to ensure that claims are appropriately
    investigated and that claims decisions are fair, accurate, and in accordance with policy guidelines.
  • Review and approve complex claims
    within the designated authority level, verify coverage, and authorize timely payments to policyholders, in accordance with Department of Insurance regulations.
      • Review and provide reserve recommendations to ensure reserving activities are consistent with company policies.
          • Provide accurate and timely reports to upper management.
              • Provide monthly feedback to supervisors through 1on1 meetings. Ensure
                staff is held accountable for performance, recognize successes and deliver coaching.
                  • Promptly assist staff with negotiating complex
                    settlements.
                    Ensuring that the settlement reflects the actual insured losses while confirming
                    that the insurer is protected from invalid claims in accordance with company practices and procedures.
                      • Evaluate, coach, and lead assigned supervisors and examiners in accordance with company human resources and claims processes and procedures.
                          • Confer with Claims management andor legal counsel on claims involving potential legal issues or litigation.
                              • Apply claims technical knowledge and human relations skills to promote fair and prompt settlement of claims.
                                  • Verify and analyze data to ensure validity and to prevent settlement from fraudulent and illegal practices.
                                      • Lead and participate in special projects to improve department quality, efficiency, and customer service.

                                        • EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

                                          • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred
                                          • Minimum 10 years experience in property and commercial claims handling andor investigation.
                                              • Minimum 5 years of management or manager role experience, dealing with complex homeowners andor
                                                commercial claims.
                                                  • Experience handling and managing Catastrophe claims, specifically wind and fire.
                                                      • Basic knowledge of computer software, i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
                                                          • Excellent customer service, oral and written communication skills.
                                                              • Experience with claims litigation, appraisal, and mediation.
