Description

Pharmacists Mutual Insurance has an opening for an Accounting Associate. This role performs routine accounting functions in the areas of deposits, invoicing and accounts payable processing. Provides customer service in areas of account billing and payment.

Accounting Associate II

  • Responsible for the more complex accounting and customer service tasks in the areas listed in the essential functions.
  • Performs limited general ledger entry and account balancing, management and regulatory reporting, municipal premium tax return preparation and provides requested documentation to actuaries and auditors. 

Senior Accounting Associate

  • Responsible for complex accounting and customer service functions within Finance. Considered a subject matter expert. 
  • Responsible for more complex management and regulatory reporting as assigned.
  • Provides oversight of one or more of the essential functions below for all companywide projects.
  • Executes and coordinates system testing between Finance and IT.
  • Demonstrates a history of quality work and is capable of being a lead-by-example contributor to the team, including mentoring team members as assigned.

Essential Functions

Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the following:    

  • Processes policyholder payments and other cash receipts including checks, EFT payments and credit card payments.
  • Processes and prints Company checks for claims, receivables and general accounts payable.
  • Balances daily deposits and records general ledger entries as required.
  • Processes agency/direct bill statements in agency software.
  • Processes invoices and payments through the accounts payable system.
  • Oversees the expense reporting system, reconciles and prepares general ledger entries for expenses and prepares management reports on expense data.
  • Assists with payroll allocation to the general ledger, as assigned.

  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles, including processes related to accounts receivable and accounts payable and understands basic accounting rules and regulations and the policies and procedures of the finance department.
  • Uses initiative and applies innovative thinking.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships in a team environment through written and oral communication.
  • Correct English usage, spelling, grammar, vocabulary and punctuation.
  • Contributes effectively to the accomplishment of Company and department goals and objectives.
  • Obtains and uses sensitive information discreetly and objectively.
  • Maintains records, prepares reports and conduct correspondence related to their work.
  • Collects, interprets, and inputs data efficiently and accurately.
  • Determines when to escalate concerns to the appropriate level of management.
  • Utilizes computer and related software effectively.
  • Skilled in Microsoft computer programs.
  • Skilled in making mathematical computations and using and maintaining financial software.
Qualifications

Experience and Education Qualifications

Accounting Associate II

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and 3 years of related experience; or
  • Associate’s Degree and 1 year of related experience

Senior Accounting Associate

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and 5 years of related experience; or
  • Associate's Degree or equivalent and 3 years of related experience; or
  • Bachelor's Degree

Work Environment

  • Primary work environment is in a climate-controlled office setting
  • Work may involve travel to attend meetings at other locations
