JOB SUMMARY

To deliver a high-quality, proactive, and flexible Human Resources service across designated business area(s). Supporting the full employee lifecycle, the post-holder will leverage their knowledge of UK employment legislation and best practices to provide advice and foster a positive workplace environment. This role requires a solid background in employee relations to proactively support and enhance workplace dynamics, ensuring that the people agenda is fit for purpose and aligns with corporate objectives and the specific objectives of the Group.

This is a full-time role offering up to £50,000 per year for the right candidate, with the flexibility to work from home one day a week.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Partnership with Leaders: Work in close partnership with managers across diverse operational teams, including security and maintenance, to deliver tailored HR support that aligns with both departmental objectives and the wider company strategy. Provide expert guidance and practical HR solutions that address the distinct challenges of each area, driving initiatives that genuinely support business goals and operational performance.

2. Dedicated HR Service and Employee Relations: Provide a HR service to assigned business areas for routine employee relations issues. Escalate complex cases or consult with the HR Business Partner and Employee Relations Manager as needed.

  • Grievance & Disciplinary Support: Advise managers on investigations and hearings related to disciplinary and grievance matters. Reviewing documentation, maintaining detailed records and ensure accurate notes.

  • Organisational Design: Support organisational changes, including succession planning, redundancy exercises, and reorganisations. Facilitate consultation processes as necessary.

  • Absence Management: Support managers by attending review meetings for complex sickness cases. Assist in obtaining medical reports and help develop action plans to address and resolve absence-related issues.

  • Performance Management: Offer guidance and support to managers on performance-related concerns, ensure accurate documentation in relevant tools, and monitor and report on progress.

3. End-to-End Recruitment: Deliver a comprehensive recruitment service to the assigned business areas, including:

  • Formulating job descriptions and person specifications.

  • Creating and placing recruitment adverts both internally and externally, including on platforms such as LinkedIn and Totaljobs.

  • Liaising with recruitment agencies and local job brokerages.

  • Negotiating fees with recruitment agencies, ensuring they have up-to-date Terms of Business agreed.

  • Attending job fairs, organising, and conducting interviews.

  • Assisting in the organisation, delivery, and design of new recruitment assessments (where applicable).

  • Assisting managers in reviewing and shortlisting applications.

  • Scheduling and attending interviews and assisting the hiring manager in creating role-specific interview questions.

  • Making offers of employment and liaising with the admin team on vetting and issuing of contracts.

4. Compilation of Salary & Bonus Market Data: Compile salary and bonus market data for benchmarking purposes to ensure competitive and fair compensation practices.

5. Exit Interviews: Ensure Exit Interviews are completed, analyse data and report back to the business area accordingly.

6. Any other Duties: Perform any other duties reasonably requested by the line manager or Head of Department.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • Demonstrated experience as an HR Advisor in a fast-paced operational setting, with the ability to stay composed and effective under pressure.
  • Proven track record of managing high-volume employee relations matters, including absence management, performance management, disciplinary and grievance cases, and investigations, with confidence and assertiveness.
  • Hands-on experience with Human Resources Management Software (HRMS) and HR systems, ensuring accurate management of employee data and HR processes.
  • Strong understanding of UK employment legislation.
  • Experience supporting recruitment and onboarding for high-volume or shift-based roles, ensuring effective integration of new starters into operational teams.
  • Ability to work with unions or employee representatives, supporting positive industrial relations and managing consultations where required would be advantageous.
  • Confidence in delivering briefings, training sessions, or toolbox talks to managers and employees on HR policies and processes.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to manage sensitive conversations and build strong relationships at all levels.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, with a meticulous approach to reporting and documentation.
  • CIPD Level 3 qualification or equivalent demonstrable experience in a fast-paced HR generalist role.
  • Highly proactive, resilient, and detail-oriented, with a “can do, will do” approach to resolving issues quickly and improving employee satisfaction.
