Environmental Health & Safety Specialist

Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented Environmental Health & Safety Specialist to join our EHS team in a dynamic corporate environment. This role focuses on tracking and reporting environmental, health, and safety projects with particular emphasis on risk management in waste recycling and disposal operations. The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated professional who thrives under pressure and can effectively manage multiple concurrent priorities.

Role Composition: 65% data analysis and reporting | 35% stakeholder communication

Key Responsibilities

Waste Management Reviews (35%)

  • Assess recyclers, disposal facilities, and waste management contractors against defined criteria for vendor approval
  • Maintain comprehensive audit data and generate detailed compliance reports
  • Collect and analyze waste generation and disposition documentation
  • Produce executive summaries and regulatory reports as required

Intranet Website Maintenance (25%)

  • Maintain and update the corporate EHS intranet website to communicate safety requirements to employees and management
  • Ensure online program documents remain current and accessible
  • Collaborate with IT and communications teams to enhance user experience

Employee EHS Engagement (15%)

  • Develop comprehensive communication and training materials on environmental and workplace health and safety topics
  • Contribute content to monthly EHS newsletters
  • Create and distribute multimedia content including videos, posters, and email campaigns
  • Support special communications initiatives and awareness programs

Data Management and Reporting (10%)

  • Partner with EHS staff to ensure accurate compliance and training reporting across national operations
  • Gather, process, and analyze complex datasets
  • Monitor data completion rates and operational results against corporate and regulatory standards
  • Coordinate with field personnel to address data gaps and inconsistencies
  • Prepare reports for operational teams, corporate management, and regulatory agencies

Environmental Site Remediation (7.5%)

  • Review and analyze remediation-related data for sites with historical environmental contamination
  • Evaluate periodic compliance reports for environmental remediation projects
  • Prepare documentation for regulatory agency submissions

Regulatory Tracking (7.5%)

  • Monitor incoming data on environmental and workplace safety regulatory changes
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to assess potential impacts on operations
  • Maintain current knowledge of industry-specific regulatory requirements

Required Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Communication Excellence: Strong interpersonal skills with ability to coordinate compliance activities across all organizational levels, suppliers, and contractors
  • Technical Proficiency: Expert-level skills in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and advanced Excel functions
  • Project Management: Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects while meeting demanding deadlines
  • Adaptability: Open to change, different viewpoints, and innovative problem-solving approaches
  • Collaboration: Strong team player with ability to work independently when required

Professional Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in formatting and presenting large datasets
  • Professional experience in environmental or related regulatory fields
  • Working knowledge of regulatory and public policy systems
  • Demonstrated experience with waste recycling and disposal processes
  • Experience working with corporate databases and data management systems
  • Proven data entry and manipulation capabilities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the telecommunications industry
  • General knowledge of environmental requirements specific to telecommunications operations
  • Background in waste recycling, disposal, and environmental site remediation
  • Familiarity with environmental compliance frameworks

Education Requirements

Required: Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science or related field
