The Team & Role
We’re looking for a Senior Events Marketing Manager to own all Gem events end-to-end. This opportunity is unique because we believe “in-person is back” and are investing heavily in creating memorable experiences for our customers and prospects. That means you’ll get to run everything from our annual conference, Gem Talent Summit, to executive-level field events and our presence at the recruiting industry’s biggest trade shows.
Due to the strategic nature of this role, you’ll report directly to the Head of Marketing (hi 👋) and get the chance to work closely with Gem’s CEO and executive staff. You’ll be wildly successful if you’re a great communicator, creative, and the organized type who always has a detailed plan. We’re looking for someone who knows the B2B events playbooks like the back of their hand, but also has an appetite to push boundaries and try new things that will make Gem stand out in a sea of boring booths and dinners.
What You’ll Do Day-to-Day
- Drive events strategy: Partner with Marketing leadership and the executive team to determine which events to host/attend and how to maximize their impact
- Own Gem Talent Summit: Run our annual conference end-to-end, creating an engaging experience for thousands of virtual and in-person attendees
- Host memorable executive field events: Plan intimate dinners and high-end experiences that attract Director+ recruiting leaders at enterprise companies across the country
- Manage our presence at industry conferences: Handle everything from booth strategy to onsite activations at shows like Unleash America and HR Tech
- Work closely with cross-functional partners to make events successful: Coordinate with Sales, Customer Success, Ops, and the rest of Marketing on invites, promotions, and follow-up
- Collaborate with vendors & agencies: Act as the primary point-of-contact for all external teams that make events possible. During busy season, you’ll have budget available for an agency/contractor to help with coordination
- Use data to understand event ROI and guide strategy: Partner with Marketing Ops to build great dashboards and share how events drive pipeline, influence deals and engage customers
About You
- Track record in events: You’ve worked in an events role for at least 7 years and know how to run all the major event types. This includes field events (like dinners), tradeshow presences (booths, etc.), and hosted conferences (hybrid or fully in-person).
- Experience in B2B Growth Tech: You’ve worked at successful startups in the 100-1,000 employee range. Experience at larger companies and agencies can be helpful too, as long as you’ve lived the startup journey and can’t wait to get back to it.
- Crave ownership and impact: You’ll be the primary driver of events at Gem (for now!). You’ll do everything from making big decisions about where we invest to calling restaurants. When you succeed, you’ll get the chance to grow your career and team. But you want this role because you love making a difference and want the satisfaction of taking an exciting company’s events to new heights.
- Organized and proactive: You always have a thorough plan and know how to keep the trains running on schedule. Organizing two conferences and multiple dinners simultaneously is no problem, and you love the thrill.
- Great communicator: You write well, run efficient meetings, and know how to get others excited about your vision. This includes external communications with executives, influencers, partners, and others participating in your events.
- Executive presence: You comfortably interface with VPs and C-levels. You can present your strategy internally, send invites on behalf of your CEO, or prep a speaker without breaking a sweat.
- Knowledge of Salesforce & Marketo: You can build lists, run reports, and interpret dashboards. You’ll have help from Ops on complex tasks, but will need to be self-sufficient day-to-day. Salesforce experience is a must, but if you’ve used other marketing automation tools, we’re open to someone willing to learn Marketo.
- Willing to travel: You won’t need to attend every event you host, but you’ll likely be on the road ~20-30% of the time
Benefits
- Highly competitive salary & equity
- 10-year window to exercise your stock options
- Supportive Flexible Time Off program
- 16 paid holidays, including regular company-wide wellness days
- Best-in-class medical, dental & vision insurance
- $1,200 annual stipend for learning and development opportunities
- 16 weeks of Paid Parental Leave for birthing and non-birthing parents
- New Parent Perks totaling $1,500 and flexibility upon return to work
