The primary role of the Production Machine Operator is the safe and efficient operation of the equipment and product testing. The Production Machine Operator is a member of the Vitalus team and as such, participates in team efforts to achieve department goals, and provides support to other roles within the plant operations as required. This position requires shift work, weekend, and holiday rotations in a 24/7 operation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS

  •  Set up, operate, and shut down the plant equipment. 
  • Verify all lines, tanks and equipment are cleaned and sanitized prior to use.
  • Operate and troubleshoot equipment in order to complete daily targets.
  • Complete the required documentation. i.e. record information on gauges, printouts and monitors, and verify against standards; maintain shift logs of production and other required data in batch sheets and CIP logs and/or record information into Navision. 
  • Package and palletize the finished product.
  • Follow all standard operating procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform required in-process product testing and record test results.
  • Ensure samples for the lab are taken and submitted. 
  • Perform daily calibrations of testing equipment.
  • Adhere to all safety practices and protocols related to job responsibilities and tasks including wearing all PPE when handling chemicals.

  •  Sound working knowledge of and adherence to HACCP requirements and standard operating procedures. 
  • Ability to perform under FSSC 22000 standards for quality. 
  • Effectively collaborates with others to achieve area and team goals. 
  • Time management skills, multitasking skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks within a fast-paced environment. 
  • Evaluate routine problems, make rational recommendations, and implement solutions. 
  • Participate in required meetings, safety discussions, and committees providing input and recommendations. 
  • Deal with changes, delays, or unexpected events in a calm and timely manner. 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

  • High school diploma 
  • 0-2 years of Food Processing experience.
  • Direct manufacturing environment or a similar industry, Dryer operation and/or dairy plant experience would be an asset
  • Experience with HACCP or other quality systems is an asset. 
  • Experience in operating manuals and power pallet jacks and forklifts. 
  • Mechanical aptitude. 
  • Very Good English (verbal and written communication skills) with the ability to follow and give clear instructions. 
  • Highly detail-oriented. 
  • Able to lift 25 kg (55 lbs.) 
  • Capability to work independently without constant supervision. 
  • Basic proficiency in MS Word, MS Outlook, and spreadsheet/database (MS Excel).
